Hi everyone, this is my first post, and I will admit, that I am stumped. I think someonw will know the fix, but I am not that someone  .

Anyway, I have been trying to fix this by searching the net, but I am at a dead end. Here is the problem in chronological order as best as I can remember.

I started having problems with my midi. In the course of trying different things, I downloaded new drivers and installed them. I noticed my computer was slow and saw that the file compaq-rba.exe was using 90% or more of my system resources, I deleted it.

Oh, the icons, taskbar, and start button started missing before I deleted the compaq file. I tried a Kelley patch from compaq.....didn't work. One think that I noticed, is that explorer.exe isn't running. I am having to do all my program running thru the windows task manager. When I "run" explorer.exe, it pops into the task manager for a moment, then disapears. And the taskbar does a quick flash onto the screen before disapearing as well.

I tried to run explorer in safe mode signed on as administrator, but it wouldn't let me to that, or quit before I could see if it was working.

Any else I might try? I don't know how to make explorer.exe stay. I did find several trojan and spyware programs and after using about 5 different spyware programs feel pretty sure I have them all deleted. I have done a system restore, that didin't fix the problem either.

Thanks for looking

Mike
