Hello everyone,

Well it seems like many people are sharing the problem I have encountered myself. After trying to follow helpful advice given to others, I came to the conclusion that I am in need of specific help to my problem, not off someone's problem.

So this problem occurred towards the end of May (28-31) and is still a nuisance. I had a series of other problems such as two instances of iexplore.exe running and hogging up all of my resources and a few other bugs I managed to get rid of (hopefully) but I have no such luck with the redirecting. It takes me to various other websites after clicking a link off google search or any other search engine.

I have scanned my computer using Malwarebytes, Spybot, Hitman3.5, Ad-Aware, Avast, Super AntiSpyware, and Eset Online Scanner.
None are able to assist me in pointing out where I should start looking.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit

If anyone would please assist me in this matter, I would greatly appreciate it. I shall wait for your responses. Thank you for your time.

Let's run this and rerun MBAM and see hiw it is.

Please download the TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool (TDSSKiller.exe) and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!
Be sure to download TDSSKiller.exe (v2.5.0.0) from Kaspersky's website and not TDSSKiller.zip which appears to be an older version 2.3.2.2 of the tool.
  • Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.
Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
  • If TDSSKiller does not run, try renaming it.
  • To do this, right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. 123abc.com). If you do not see the file extension, please refer to How to change the file extension.
  • Click the Start Scan button.
  • Do not use the computer during the scan
  • If the scan completes with nothing found, click Close to exit.
  • If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results - Select action for found objects and offer three options.
  • Ensure Cure (default) is selected, then click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.
  • A log file named TDSSKiller_version_date_time_log.txt (i.e. TDSSKiller.2.4.0.0_27.07.2010_09.o7.26_log.txt) will be created and saved to the root directory (usually Local Disk C:).
  • Copy and paste the contents of that file in your next reply.

If TDSSKiller does not run, try renaming it. To do this, right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. 123abc.com). If you do not see the file extension, please refer to these instructions. In some cases it may be necessary to redownload TDSSKiller and randomly rename it before downloading and saving to the computer.

Rerun MBAM (MalwareBytes) like this:

Open MBAM in normal mode and click Update tab, select Check for Updates, when done
click Scanner tab, select Quick scan and scan (normal mode).
After scan click Remove Selected, Post new scan log
and Reboot into normal mode.

Please ask any needed questions, post logs and Let us know how the PC is running now.

Thank you for the prompt reply.

Unfortunately, I could not get the TDSSKiller.exe to run after several attempts of following your instructions. (Save to desktop, Run as admin, random rename with .com extension, save to desktop renamed first) I can't seem to run it. Any ideas?

TDSS may need elevared permission.
Try with a Keyboard Shortcut

NOTE: This will allow you to temporarily run a program as an administrator once until you close it.
Press and hold Ctrl+Shift while opening the program.

If prompted by UAC, then click on Yes to apply permission to allow the program to run with full permission as an Administrator.
NOTE: If you are doing this is while logged in as standard user instead of an administrator, then you will need to provide the administrator's password before the program will run as administrator.

Tried it with no success. I am the admin on this computer and the only login as well. I have no idea why it's not running. It doesn't even pop up in task manager when I try.

I even tried running it through task manager being that it opens it up with admin rights but still no luck.

TDSSKiller from Command Prompt
Click Start,in the Start Search box type CMD. When you see the Command Prompt icon in the pop up list ,right click it and select Run As Administrator.

Use the following command to scan the PC with a detailed log written into the file report.txt (created in the TDSSKiller.exe utility folder):
Open Command Prompt in XP = click Start >> Run,type cmd
copy and paste this at the flashing cursor and hit Enter

TDSSKiller.exe -l report.txt

Still no luck. I enter it and it doesn't do anything. Just waits for another command. Followed all your instructions exactly.

Ok so here is an update.

I was able to run Tdsskiller from the .zip download. Don't know why that one would run and not just the .exe download but it came up with 2 threats. The redirecting appears to have stopped but for the sake of making sure everything is gone, I'll post the log.

I ran an updated MBAM scan and nothing was found. Anything else I should do to make sure my computer is safe from this?
Thanks for your time

This was the real troublemaker, volsnap.sys,it's the latest in the TDDs strain. It has taken all passwords so you need to change them after this online scan to be sure nothing else is left.
