Hi everybody,

I've been looking at laptops to maybe upgrade to in a few months. I've always had a pc, but after looking at the Mac computers, I think they might be something I'm interested in. One of my big questions about them though is do they have usb 3.0 or will they be switching to usb 3.0 soon? I could be totally off on this, but they use usb 2.0 now right? I'm assuming this because those ports really look like usb ports, but like I said I could be totally off about that.

Thanks for any help.

They are currently using 2.0 ports. There has been no talk (that I have seen) about upgrading to the 3.0 technology. Although I don't see any reason why they wouldn't, besides the fact they are equipped with the new thunderbolt technology.

That's really good news. I know that if they had said that they absolutely would not go to usb 3.0, I would not get one. On a side note, do you have any idea what they're planning on using the thunderbolt technology for?

Storage, video, and port adapters so far. The I/O performance is unmatched, I can't wait to get a thunderbolt applicable external hard drive so I can just see the speed (10gbps).

The thunderbolt port outperforms USB 3.0 by millions of times over!

ya, but well see if it really takes off. 1394 or firewire, will outpeform USB 1-2.0 easily, and I think has the capability of outperforming 3.0 as well, and can be used for all the same applications-yet USB is far more popular.

Yeah just another format war, I'm hoping it does take off, but usb 3.0 has backwards compatibility going for it while still being a large speed upgrade.
