Where did you try to download ComboFix from? (do not post an active link)

The only download links you should be using can be found in the authorized How to use ComboFix guide.

...you should download ComboFix from one of the following URLs:

  • BleepingComputer.com
  • InfoSpyware.net
To download ComboFix, simply left-click on one of the links above and you will see a prompt similar to the figure below.

Click on the text highlighted in blue in that guide.

If you are dealing with a malware infection, please be aware that using ComboFix is only one part of the disinfection process. Preliminary scans from other tools like DDS, RSIT and GMER should be used first because they provide comprehensive logs with specific details about files, folders and registry keys which may have been modified by malware infection. Analysis of those logs allows planning an strategy for effective disinfection and a determination if using ComboFix is necessary. ComboFix was never meant to be used as a general purpose malware scanner like SuperAntispyware or Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware which scan individual drives or different folders on a computer for viruses.

I ask that you heed our warning about using this tool on your own without proper supervision. Please read the pinned topic ComboFix usage, Questions, Help? - Look here.

I have the same issue. I am running Commodo firewall and antivirus. I have down loaded ComboFix 3 times from Bleeping Computer, and each time after successfully installing ComboFix.exe I'll see the progress bars proceeding until fully down loaded and the program disappears. It does't show up in my down loads. I temporarilly disabled my anti virus/firewall and that still didn't help.

What browser are you using?

Have you tried downloading from a different browser?

Have you tried downloading from a different computer, saving to a usb drive and transferring to the computer you intend to use CF on?

Hello warhorse -

It does't show up in my down loads.

The program should only ever be downloaded to Desktop, and for this reason it often will not show in downloads.

Also note that Windows 8.1 has problems with ComboFix and DDS programs.

Only ever follow the links given by quietman7, and do not use other sites, as there are false/fake downloads.

We can only link you to the developers directions, and add our ideas as why you have problems.

If your computer is badly infected, then my idea is that this may be the wrong tool, and others may be needed

Please note that this tool is not a "cure all" for every problem, but only for specific problems.

Extra Note - For continued help see below -

I would follow the instructions in the Preparation Guide starting at Step #6.

NOTE - If you are unable to complete any step, please post the topic and leave a full description of your problems, and the fact that DDS would not run.

When you have done that, start a new topic and post the required logs to  Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs forum, NOT here, for assistance by the Malware Response Team Experts.

Please Use Copy / Paste for your responses, and Do Not Attach them unless your helper requests this.

If Help Bot responds to your topic, please follow his Step #1 so the team will be notified.

After doing this, please reply back in this thread with a link to the new topic so we can close this one.

Thank You -

I have used both IE and Mozella Firfox on a Window 7, 64 bit OS. I haven't had any windpw openings for saving CF, so no oppurtunities to save it to desk top.

Well the download link is working fine.

Usually when there are problems downloading CF its either an anti-virus program falsely detecting it or malware blocking the download.

Since you are dealing with malware, I suggest you follow the instructions in the Preparation Guide link provided by noknojon and post the required logs in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs forum.
