hi there, i was just given a computer by my boss, and i want to reformat/reinstall windows as there is nothing but junk on it now. i don't have the original disc with the os on it, but i have a win xp install disc that i had used on another computer. would i be able to use this same disc to install windows on this computer i am getting? if so, would i be able to properly validate it and get windows updates etc. (i.e. is that legit?)?

thanks very much for any help.

The short answer is NO. You cannot have the same instance of XP on two different computers at one time. When you log on to validate the second install ME will notice it is on two different computer and disable both. You will have to contact MS on the 1-800 line and receive a code to re-activate the original install. A clean copy of W2k goes for about $60 on eBay. It is as go as XP without needing that fast of a machine. IMHO

Your local computer store may have it for as little as $90 for XP Home. On eBay I think it is a comstant of about $110. Albert Frankenstein has a good suggestion. He would know if anyone.
