Hi, about 2 days ago i was using my laptop, and i went to go grab a drink, and when i came back i needed to use internet explorer, so i opened it up and typed in an address and i get this error message

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel.

I have looked all over google for a solution, i am stuck using opera, which is great but for some things i need internet explorer.

I hope this is in the right place.

Thanks

go to control panel/folder options. Click on file types and scroll down to the html types HDT and HDTL, see what program is associated with them. If it is not IE, click on the change button and reassociate the file types with IE.

do you have up to date anti-virus and anti-malware software on your computer? I would run a thorough scan to insure nothing bad is going on.

If none of this works, you may need to uninstall and reinstall IE.

The other option would be firefox, though there are times when you have to have IE.

Thanks for the reply but that didnt work,

And for some reason when i would type an url in the address bar it would open up firefox, so i have uninstalled firefox and now it says application not found.

So now i have 2 problems

A couple of ideas:

Download the latest version of IE and install it. It can be downloaded HERE.

If that does not cure your ills you need to be sure that your computer is free of malicious software. A good guide on how to do that is found HERE. If that does not solve the issue, then I would suggest continuing the instructions found at the same link concerning how to post a HighJack This! log.

Post your system information along with a brief description of the problems you are having, and your HJT log in the HJT forum found HERE.

NOTE: Please, after you post your HJT log DO NOT make another post in the HJT forum until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. The first thing they look for, when looking for logs to reply to, is 0 replies. If you make another post there will be 1 reply. The team member glancing over the replies might think someone is already helping you out and will not respond. So, just make your post and let it sit there until a team member responds. The volunteers who work that forum are very busy, so please be patient and wait for a response. It can sometimes take a few days.

You are in good hands! Good luck!
