Yesterday I got infected by the Windows Vista Recovery virus, fortunately I didn't fall for the scam. However I haven't been able to return my laptop to its original state after it got infected, having tried various automated removal programs and even manually as-well.
The current situation is that I am quite sure that I have removed the virus, however I still can't see most of my desktop icons (using the hidden files & folders guide has only made some of them visible again), my start menu at the bottom left corner is still empty and I have run out of ideas of how to fix this issue.
I desperately need your help guys, and I am willing to give msn remote control as-well, cause I am pretty much a computer illitterate myself.
PS: After running MBAM my computer failed to enter desktop and shut down, so I turned it on again and the PC went into repair mode in the console. After some time "repairing" it rebooted and I was able to enter my desktop. The background was/is still black however, and I still can't see all files & folders on my desktop, and as mentioned the start menu bar is empty :-( Heck even the programs, such as MBAM I can't find again, eventhough I placed them on the desktop :-/
I really don't want to lose all the stuff on my pc collected over several years :-(
Many many thanks in advance to anyone willing to help me out!
