Ok here is what I did. I got a Hard Drive from a HD-DVR its a 500G. I have already hooked it up to the computer with a sata cable but my computer wont recognize it. I want to format this HDD and use it with my current computer and have a larger capacity on it. Can anyone tell me how do I make my computer view that HDD

Thank you

If it is a second hd (as I assume it is), open disk management and format it from there.

START - RUN - diskmgmt.msc (press ENTER)

Right click on the drive and format.
