Hello. I am new to this forum! Yesterday I had the pleasure of contracting spysheriff... again. This also happened to me about 3 weeks ago. Here's the deal. Three weeks ago when I was infected with spysheriff, I didn't know what it was. My wallpaper changed, and the bubble kept popping up saying I had a spyware infection. I clicked on the bubble, not knowing, and downloaded spysheriff and ran it. I became suspect however, after viewing the spysheriff website. Then of course I couldn't get rid of it no matter what I tried and my computer was running like crap. My laptop is university issued, so I contacted the school helpdesk, brought my computer in, and they ran some heavy-duty spyware removal and fixed my computer. I have no idea how it happened, and the helpdesk suggested that instead of using internet explorer, I use mozilla firefox or netscape because internet explorer is more susceptible to contracting viruses. So I did, and the past 3 weeks have been virtually popup free and running smoothly. Until last night, when the familiar bubble appeared on my toolbar with the red X saying I had a spyware infection. This time, however, I did not click on the bubble, and spysheriff did not download (to my knowledge anyway). I consulted this website, ran hijackthis, downloaded ewido, smitrem, etc. and followed the directions with my computer in safe mode. I am pleased to say that I was successful in removing the spyware. However, I don't know what I am doing to get this weaselly little piece of garbage. I am nervous that something is seriously wrong with my computer if I keep contracting this. I do not click on any popups, I do not download suspect programs, I don't visit porn websites. If someone could give me some advice, I would greatly appreciate it. Sorry about the long post, but I wanted to be thorough in explaining my problem!!

P.S. If this matters, in my hijackthis log, the only "bad" file I found was winstall.exe
