Hopefully I read the posting instructions correctly. Below is DDS.txt file pasted in. I have attached attach.txt and ark.txt. I have tried per Microsoft's instruction to run their Malicious Removal Tool - then ATF Cleaner - then Malwarebytes - then SuperAntiSpyware. Still no fix. To be honest I tried Combofix and pasting in a text file into it from reading elsewhere on this forum. The Combo fix gets about halfway loaded and locks up. I noticed it creates a directory on C: drive that appears to be a mirror of the hard drive. I could only delete it in SafeMode. I tried again after deleting and locked again. Did not delete this directory again. Getting redirect browser. Messages saying I need to update but it is not genuine Windows websites and the system has automatically shutdown a couple times when not doing the updates from bogus websites. Ran into all contacts in email plus files on desktop being marked as hidden. Changed attributes of those to bring them back. Adobe Acrobat has crashed and been uninstalled. Cannot reinstall. Any help would be appreciated. DDS file is as follows:

Good evening. :)

the system has automatically shutdown a couple times

If Windows is showing a thirty second countdown message before it shuts down, create the below file and when the PC starts to shut down double click the file and that should stop it. If the system is just shutting down without the pop-up window, then don't bother with the below as it won't do diddly!

Copy and paste the following into Notepad (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad):

shutdown -a

Save it to your Desktop with the following filename, including quotation marks: "abort.bat"

If it does prove useful then you can leave it on the Desktop and you run it when you need to.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Download aswMBR.exe from here and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click the tool to run it.
  • Click the Scan button to, well, start the scan - obvious really!
  • Once the scan reports "Scan finished successfully", which takes less than a minute on my system, click Save log.
  • On my system it offers to save it to the Desktop, which may or may not be it's default behaviour, but it's as handy a place as any.
  • You'll also see a file called MBR.dat appear as well - this is a backup that it created, just in case it's needed. Keep it handy for now.
I'd like the contents of aswMBR.txt in your next reply, if you'd be so kind.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
Will you copy and paste logs unless they are really big as it makes it easier to review them. Big logs may get the ends cut of due to post size, so they have to be attached.
Download TDSSKiller.zip from Kaspersky from here and save it to your Desktop.
  • You will then need to extract the file(s) from the zipped folder.
  • To do this: Right-click on the zipped folder and from the menu that appears, click on Extract All...
    In the Extraction Wizard window that opens, click on Next> and in the next window that appears, click on Next> again.
    In the final window, click on Finish
  • Please close all open programs as this may result in a reboot being necessary.
  • Double click TDSSKiller.exe to begin.
  • Click Start scan and allow the tool to do just that.
  • One the scan has completed, if the tool has identified anything allow it to carry out it's default action(s) - you'll need to click Continue where appropriate.
  • Finally, if it prompts you to reboot your machine, please click Reboot Now and ensure that your machine does so.
  • If the scan finds nothing, please click the Report button and let me have a copy of the text file that opens.
  • If you reboot your machine, the log, which i'd like to see, will be located at the root of you hard drive as C:\TDSSKiller.Version_Date_Time_log.txt.
    Please check that you get the one with the right date and time. :)
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
Rodger on the pasting of logs....
On to TDSSKiller. I cannot get the program to load. Tried double-click. Tried right-click and open. Tried hitting enter. Tried right-click and run as.. selected Administrator in lieu of current User and get the following message "Service cannot be started because it is either disabled or it has no enabled device associated with it." That's the only way to get a message. All other attempts it just does nothing.
Good evening. :)
OK, let's see where Plan B gets us.
Run aswMBR.exe again.
  • Click the Scan button as before.
  • Once the scan has completed, and do let it complete first, either the Fix button or the FixMBR button should be active - click the one that isn't greyed out.
  • Once complete, click Save log as before, save it to your desktop and post in your next reply.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
Grand job - if you haven't already, reboot the PC and take it for a spin. Let me know if it's behaving itself now.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
No dice.... When I opened Firefox it came up to a redirect for Stopzilla Anti-virus. Clicked home button and Yahoo came up. Did a search and results were fine. Clicked on a result and got redirected to new search results.
Good evening. :)
It looks like the nasty you have has been recoded to mess with the tools that would normally shift it. Onward and upward, or something like that, do you have:
1) A Windows Installation Disk.
2) A flashdrive of at least 128Mb that you can wipe clean for a little operating system that we can play with.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
Please read through all the instructions BEFORE you begin and ask any questions that you may have first. Be aware that an active infection may interfere with the first part of this procedure. If it doesn't go according to instructions, you may have to use a different PC to write the software to the flash drive.
  • Download both this file and this file and save them to your Desktop.
  • Insert your USB flash drive into your PC.
  • Click Start > My Computer, right click your flash drive's icon and select Format > Quick format - this will wipe the contents of the flash drive, so make sure there is nothing of value on there!
  • Double click unetbootin-xpud-windows-version number.exe that you just downloaded and OK any Security Warning that Windows may offer.
  • Select the Diskimage radio button and then click the browse button (the one with three dots on) located on the right side of the textbox field.
  • Browse to and select the xpud-0.9.2.iso file you downloaded above by double clicking it.
  • Verify the correct drive letter is selected for your USB device at the bottom and then click OK.
  • The program will install a little bootable OS onto your flash drive.
  • Once the files have been written to the drive you will be prompted to reboot - this isn't necessary, so just click Exit.
  • Next download http://noahdfear.net/downloads/driver.sh to your USB - directly or drag it there when it's downloaded.
The next part is somewhat tricky as it differs on different machines. If you are lucky, then the following will work - if it doesn't, let me know and we'll go for a different angle.
  • If it isn't already there, insert the flash drive into the sick PC and then reboot it.
  • You need to select the OS that is on the stick rather than let Windows take charge, so press F12 and choose to boot from the USB drive before Windows starts loading.
  • Follow the prompts and eventually a Welcome to xPUD screen will appear.
  • Click the File icon on the left.
  • Open the mnt folder by clicking it, just as you do in Windows.
  • You are going to identify the folder that represents to your flash drive.
  • sda1, sda2 etc... will usually be your hard drive(s); sdb1 is likely to be your flash drive.
  • Click on the flash drive folder and check that you can see driver.sh that you downloaded earlier.
  • Next click Tool at the top.
  • Choose Open Terminal - this will open the Linux equivalent of a Command Window in all it's fashionable black livery.
  • Type bash driver.sh and then <ENTER>
  • You now get to sit and watch some text scroll down the Terminal window until it reports Done - which doesn't need any explanation, hopefully!
  • A report will be located on your flash drive called report.txt (an uninspired choice of name I know!), which is the purpose of this little adventure.
  • Click the Home icon on the left and Power off the machine
  • Remove the USB drive and insert back in your working computer and navigate to report.txt
    Please note - all text entries are case sensitive
    Copy and paste the contents of report.txt into your next reply, or let me know if you had any problems.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
Could not locate the USB drive in folder mnt. C: drive appeared to have some hidden partitions setup by Dell. I was able to exit and copy driver.sh to C: drive in My Documents and ran from their. Hope that isn't an issue. Report.txt is as follows:
Good evening. :)
Could not locate the USB drive in folder mnt.
This isn't an unknown issue - in future just pull out the flashdrive, count to ten and stick it back in and it should autodetect.
It looks like there may have been some system files replaced, so we'll need to check for clean copies to replace them with, and we'll also take a peek at the master boot record as well, while we're (or more accurately you're) there.
  • Download the following file: dumpit and save it to the flashdrive with xPud on.
  • Download spla.sh from here and transfer it to the flashdrive as well.
  • Finally, go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad and create a new text file with the following content:
    find::
    mrxsmb....$
    rdbss....$
    volsnap....$
  • Please make sure that there is at least one blank line at the end of the text file or it won't work properly - more than one blank line is OK too but not necessary.
  • You need to save the file as target.txt, also to the flashdrive.
  • Boot from the flashdrive as before and this time, hopefully, you should be able to locate the flashdrive folder.
  • Open the folder and check that you can see 2spla.sh that you downloaded earlier.
  • Next click Tool at the top.
  • Choose Open Terminal - this will open the Linux equivalent of a Command Window in all it's fashionable black livery.
  • Type bash 2spla.sh and then <ENTER>
  • Once you get the "All done" message, you're all done with this part - obvious really!
  • Locate the dumpit file you downloaded previously in the flashdrive folder and double click it.
  • A black Terminal window should open and the text therein should contain the legend: Press Enter to exit: - please do so.
  • Click the Home icon on the left and Power off the machine.
  • Boot your PC and locate the folder mbr.zip that it should now contain.
  • Please attach this folder in your next reply - you will need to put it in a compressed/zipped folder.
  • You should also find a newly created folder on the flashdrive called output and inside that a text file called, unimaginatively, output.txt. Copy and paste the contents of that file into your next reply, or let me know if you had any problems.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
OK. The last couple time this machine has powered off it is getting a blue screen that says:
A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage. The is some other text after this about checking bios and equipment manufacturer etc. Then it has tech info.
Technical Information:
*** STOP: 0X0000008E (0XC0000005, 0X9E4F36E1, 0X9DC9FAF8, 0X00000000)
*** eamon.sys - address 9E4F36E1 base at 9E4EC000, Date Stamp 4d00692b
Beginning Dump of Physical Memory
Physical Memory Dump Complete
Also, after running this last round of scans as requested CHKDSK ran on boot up. During Verify Indexes Stage I got Deleting Index Entry A0060912.ini in index $I30 of file 40560.
Don't know what any of this means but I thought you should know things going on. On to your request.....
