Hi all,

Let me begin by saying many thanks to this site for all your help. I have learned much from reading the forums. Thanks to all!

I am running Windows XP Pro SP3 on my laptop with a AMD Sempron, graphics card is ATI Radeon Xpress 200M.

Every USB item that I try to plug in comes back as "unrecognized by Windows".

I have already tried to shutdown the PC and reboot, I checked Hardware manager and says all is ok for USB section and drivers are up to date. I removed drivers and re-installed them, I removed all USB items from Hardware manager and rebooted to have windows re-install them.

All windows updates are up to date. All hardware drivers are up to date. I even re-installed XP on a separate partition. Same problem in new partition. What else can I do before concluding that the hardware itself is defective and that its not a software issue?

I currently have no malware or spyware or trojans etc. PC is totally clean.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

What is new or different since the last time everything worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, error, etc)?

yes sorry forgot to mention it. I have had this problem for many months now, only took time to try to figure it out now. Yes my mistake. Lesson learned... I think the problem started when I tried to install a portable USB Hub that I bought from a discount computer store. Its a generic one. Windows did NOT like it. Another lesson learned... :-(
