Hi All - Hope someone can help me with this! Its on a desktop running Xp Professional.

History: Malware problems - false virus alert popups and I had to uninstall AVG as it was running continuously but it wouldn't let you
remove any of the (many) reported infected files.

I tried downloading and running a few anti-malware programs like MalwareBytes and Superantispyware, running 'rkill' before each one.

But - the situation now is that the desktop comes up, I can open data files but whenever I try to open / run any executables (Windowes explorer, Firefox or any
of the anti-malwares) it just brings up the 'Open With' dialogue box and I can't actually open the application??

Any help would be much appreciated!

You need to repair the file associations - at least the .exe file associations (http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm).

If I were you I'd post in the Am I Infected forum and make sure your system is malware free.

Thanks for that - it seems to have sorted my .exe problems.
I'll try and get some advice in the 'Am I Infected forum' now!

Thanks again,
