So a couple days ago, my computer got infected with a lot of nasty things. There was Windows XP Recovery Virus, Hijack.Desktop, Hijack.DIsplayProperties, and Hijack.Startmenu. I was able to rid my computer of all of those using Malwarebytes.

However, since this, google/yahoo have been redirecting to blank placeholder pages with buttons leading to fake sites (this happens in both Firefox and IE)... I believe this is the google redirect virus (or some iteration).

On top of this, iexplore.exe will run itself (i only use firefox and suddenly iexplore.exe pops up in task manager) WITHOUT an actual window popping up, and strange audio starts playing (it appears to be a talk show?) I have no idea on this one. It's bizarre.

Malwarebytes doesn't pick up anything for either of them, so I'm not sure what to do here.

I'm running Windows XP.

Thanks in advanced!

EDIT: After looking around similar topics in this forum, it appears I have a varaint of TDSS... however its already REALLY bad because I can't even find a way to get TDSSKiller to open, even in safe mode and changing it to a .com extension... I'm posting on another (clean) computer. Hope this isn't the end of my desktop.

It appears that the issues on your system will require a more in-depth examination than can be performed in this forum. Please read the information in this guide, and follow all the steps beginning with step 6. After you have followed the steps in that guide, I would like you to start a new thread HERE and include a link to this thread.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient. The MRT is very busy, so it could be several days (3-5 days is the average wait right now) before you receive a reply. But rest assured, help is on the way!
