Hello!

I Have a search engine redirect and background audio ads virus (and i had a hidden folders problem) on my Windows 7 comp. Affecting IE and firefox with the redirect problem and audio ads that I can't stop!

I have been trying not to bother you nice helpful people with this and just follow other instructions but it seems this one is a tricky bugger! Unfortunately I can not go on any longer trying to resolve this issue myself without help.

I have a Spanish laptop (one of the reasons for getting the virus in the first place!) and it's driving me nuts! All the files for Win7 and the virus should be named the same (I'm hoping) but anyway, I have tried the following:

Manual removal via lots of different guides:
My drivers\etc\hosts file seems to be an example host file and not the real deal? In one manual removal guide it advised to delete it, so I did but that didn't seem to halt anything.
all my TCP\IP settings are correct
TDSS in 'No plug and play devices' in system drivers
MSconfig stopping unknown or dodgy startups

Booting in safemode and running the following anti V's

TDSS killer (the symptoms are similar to this apparently but I can't find any of the TDSSxxx.sys etc files)
hitman 3 (apparently on one thread it was fixing everyones at the end.... not mine :( )
hijack this,
spybot S&D(had tea timer on at time of virus not sure how it got past...)
malware bytes
combifix (I notice on this forum it advises you not to use it, I will post the log)(also this resolved my hidden folder problem which is still good today)
other ones i can;t even remember...

anyway at somepoints i thought the virus had gone, the audio ads stopped for a while, and at one point I managed to search on google twice before everything but the folders came back!

The reason I am posting is it seems to be a case by case fix on here with various proceedures, all of which get the same outcome, a happy one! :)

Thanks for your time

oh.... I wont post the prev combi fix log unless asked...

thanks again,

Hello,

Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<== starting at step 6.

Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Since you have run ComboFix, please include the ComboFix log in the new topic. Please be sure to include a description of your computer issues and what you have done to try to resolve them.

If you cannot produce any of the other logs, then please create the new topic anyway, include the information that you were unable to produce the other logs and why and include the ComboFix log along with a description of your computer issues.
