Hi,

The other day I was on a design website and I clicked to enlarge a photo and my firefox immediately shrank down to a tiny 1" by 1" window and I got a message saying that my windows has become unstable or something like that. I was distracted and clicked ok and I immediately got a fake scanner website similar to the one that Win 7 Antispyware one I had previous but it was within firefox so I just closed the window and ran MBAM. It said I had no malware and Scotty on WinPatrol didn't catch anything either. However, I noticed that since then my computer is running slower and freezing temporarily (ie. taking really long to load pages, even late at night when I'm the only one on the server). I started my Task Manager just to see what was running and I couldn't open the file location of csrss.exe. I downloaded RegistryBooster to see what was going on and I saved the log but I didn't click fix or anything, just closed it down after I copied the log because I was unsure what to do. Advice very much appreciated! I've been instructed to run DDS, the log is attached here.

Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

Please take note:

  • If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know.
  • If you are unable to create a log because your computer cannot start up successfully please provide detailed information about your installed Windows Operating System including the Version, Edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system.
    • If you are unsure about any of these characteristics just post what you can and we will guide you.
  • Please tell us if you have your original Windows CD/DVD available.
  • If you are unable to perform the steps we have recommended please try one more time and if unsuccessful alert us of such and we will design an alternate means of obtaining the necessary information.
  • If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.
  • Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review your topic an do their best to resolve your issues.
  • If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
  • Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan again:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links if you no longer have it available. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit Scanner.

Please note that if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows you will not be able to run GMER and you may skip this step.

Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

Hi KJayne
Welcome to Bleeping Computer.
I'm maranatha and I will be handling your log to help you get cleaned up.

Please do this.

Download ComboFix from Here to your Desktop.

It's best to disable realtime protection applications as they sometimes interfere with the tool.
Check this link for any applicable programs you may have.
  • Close all open programs and windows
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • Vista/Windows7 users right click Combofix.exe and select Run As Administrator.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post the Combofix log
  • The log can be located here if it was closed. C:\Combofix.txt
Note: Do not mouse click combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

If you are prompted to install the Recovery Console, Please do so.

Thanks
maranatha

Hello,

I have the latest McAfee Security Center and you can't turn it off--so I just disabled all the scan/firewall functions (I did that the last time I had to run combofix). I've attached the combofix log below, thank you!!

Hi KJayne
Was this the first run of Combofix where I asked you to run it?
If not would you please post the log from the first run, should be located in the folder here...
C:\qoobox - Combofix1.txt < Post this log.

Please do this.

Please Run the ESET Online Scanner and post the ScanLog..

  • You will need to use Internet Explorer to complete this scan.
  • You will need to temporarily Disable your current Anti-virus program.
  • Click on the ESET on line scanner button.
  • Check the “YES, I accept the Terms of Use” box. And click “Start”
If your Pop=up blocker comes up, please allow the Add-ON
  • Be sure the option to Remove found threats is Un-checked and click Start.
  • When you have completed that scan, a scanlog ought to have been created and located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt. Please post that log.

Please post the ESET log and the Combofix log (if it was ran 2 times)

Thanks
maranatha

Hi,

I ran Combofix over a month ago when I got the Win 7 Antispyware malware--and was all fixed up so I deleted the log and all the software they told me to download in the clean-up steps. This post is because of a new problem, the log I posted is the most recent one.

I ran the ESET scanner--it said nothing was detected and it didn't create a log. Did I do something wrong?

Hi
No you didn't do anything wrong, if it doesn't find anything then it won't produce a log.

OK lets do a couple more scans to see if anything else will show.

Please do this.

Please download aswMBR ( 511KB ) to your desktop.
  • Double click the aswMBR.exe icon to run it
  • Click the Scan button to start the scan
  • On completion of the scan, click the save log button, save it to your desktop and post it in your next reply.

Now this.

Download OTL to your Desktop.

* Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
* Under the Custom Scan box copy and paste this in:

netsvcs
%SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
/md5start
eventlog.dll
scecli.dll
netlogon.dll
cngaudit.dll
sceclt.dll
ntelogon.dll
logevent.dll
iaStor.sys
nvstor.sys
atapi.sys
IdeChnDr.sys
viasraid.sys
AGP440.sys
vaxscsi.sys
nvatabus.sys
viamraid.sys
nvata.sys
nvgts.sys
iastorv.sys
ViPrt.sys
eNetHook.dll
ahcix86.sys
KR10N.sys
nvstor32.sys
/md5stop
%systemroot%\*. /mp /s
%systemroot%\system32\*.dll /lockedfiles
%systemroot%\Tasks\*.job /lockedfiles
%systemroot%\system32\drivers\*.sys /lockedfiles
%systemroot%\System32\config\*.sav
CREATERESTOREPOINT

* Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows: OTL.txt and Extras.txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Please copy the contents of OTL log, and post them back here.

Please Copy and paste the aswMBR log and the OTL log here.

Thanks
