Microsoft AntiSpyware detects Shop At Home and Virtumondo.C every other day if not every day. It will automatically let me remove the Shop At Home entry and usually only let me quarantine the Vitrumondo.C entry. It has only once or twice given me the option of removing the Virtumondo. SpyBot finds it - I can't remember if AdAware does. Norton's doesn't. Here's my HJT log: is it the igfxsrvc.dll?

Hello mjgicy and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. Ido not see any problems in the HijackThis log. It is clean.

Just to be safe, let's run a different scanner and see what it shows us.

Download WinPFind.zip and unzip the contents to the C:\ folder.

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Locate the c:\winpfind\winpfind.exe file and double-click it to run it. Now click the Start Scan button to begin the scan.

When the scan is complete reboot normally and post the WinPFind.txt file (located in the WinPFind folder) back here along with a new HijackThis log and I will review the information when it comes in.

OT
I do not respond to PM's requesting help. That's what the forums are here for. Please use them so that others may benefit from your questions and the responses you receive.

Hi mjgicy. I don't see any indications of problems so let's look at doing a little housekeeping.

Start out by disabling TeaTimer. By having both MS AntiSpyware and TeaTimer running at the same time can cause conflicts between the 2 programs and prevent both of them from operating successfully.
  • Start Spybot-S&D.
  • Go to the Mode menu, and make sure Advanced Mode is selected.
  • On the left hand side, choose Tools and then click on Resident.
  • Uncheck Resident TeaTimer and choose OK for any furhter prompts.
  • Restart your computer.
Now let's temporarily shut down MS AntiSpyware so it does not conflict with what we are going to do.
  • Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
  • Click on Options>Settings.
  • In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
  • Under Startup Options uncheck Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
  • Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
  • After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
  • Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:O2 - BHO: (no name) - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - (no file)
Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Download CCleaner and install it. Start CCleaner and click on the Run Cleaner button in the lower right-hand corner. When it is finished close CCleaner.

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)1. Turn off System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Restart your computer.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
[/list]System Restore will now be active again.

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

Hey OT!
Sorry to have taken so long to get this done. Life gets in the way sometimes.

Here is my HJT log as of today 1-30-06. I did not have any problems with anything. I did not reenable TeaTimer as I got the impression you did not think I should. Please let me know if you feel otherwise! One question - Isn't CCleaner pretty much the same as CleanUp?

Thanks!

OT - Follow up on the scans. I just ran a Microsoft Antispyware Scan. It found the ShopAtHome thing again. It did NOT find the Virtumondo.C, however! This is good.

Here is where the string is in the registry:
Infected registry keys/values detected
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Code Store Database\Distribution Units\{E9670165-86FE-4C34-8C4B-D3158DDC5D92}

Thanks!

Hi mjgicy. Yes, that entryis for a Shop-At-Home downloaded program but the file is missing so it is harmless. We will go ahead and remove itanyway.

If that entrycomes back every couple of days then I would think that it isbeing installedby either a popup or a website that is being visited. One of the anti-malware programsis removing the file but not the registry entry.

To remove the entry do the following:

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:O16 - DPF: {E9670165-86FE-4C34-8C4B-D3158DDC5D92} -
Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Now let's also clean out the restore points and create a new one.

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)
  • Turn off System Restore.
    • On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
    • Click Properties.
    • Click the System Restore tab.
    • CHECK Turn off System Restore.
    • Click Apply, and then click OK.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Turn ON System Restore.
    • On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
    • Click Properties.
    • Click the System Restore tab.
    • UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
    • Click Apply, and then click OK.
System Restore will now be active again.

That's it. You should be good to go.

Cheers.
