I finally installed several Windows XP (service pack 3) update modules, 72 of them. It took over 30 minutes to get them installed.

Since they have been installed, my PC stalls and stops working on the Windows start up page.

If I use Safe Mode to start up, Windows completes the start up process.

How can I resolve this problem?

Thanks,

System manufacturer and model?

Any onscreen error messages?

Have you tried Last Known Good and/or System Restore?

My system is a Dell Inspiron 640m. No onscreen error messages are displayed during the Windows startup process.

When I tried the System Restore process in Safe Mode, I received the following message:

"System Restore has bee turned off and cannot be turned on in Safe Mode. To turn on System Restore, restart in Normal mode and then run System Restore again."

Of course, my PC won't startup Windows in Normal mode.

Please advise.

Thanks,

GOOD NEWS!!

I have been able to successfully logon to Windows XP in Normal mode. By accessing the Windows Advanced Options Menu, I noticed an entry for 'Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)' and selected it.

VOILA! Windows XP started up in Normal mode without any delays or problems. It looks like my problem is fixed.

Thank you for your excellent assistance.
