I deleted that orphaned service from my log.

Were there any others?

The services for Threatfire may be orphaned, but sometimes they only show when they are running. Either way, they should not cause you any issues.

Under Power Schemes, I switched PC back to Energy Star mode and once again, the computer lost area connection after going into Hibernate mode.

I do not believe your problem is malware related. I suggest that you pose a question in theWindows XP forum.
