Hi

I have recently format my laptop last month. After format is was fast but after it starts to install all the updates. It become slowly. It also occasional sort of become noisy as it force the fan to run faster when i open software like ms word or excel and sometimes when i open a few tabs in chrome.

Here are the process list below. I notice that there any so many chrome process even that i open open 2 tabs.
I have done doing checkdisk and currently doing defrag.
Anyone knows whats wrong?

I don't think anything is wrong :).

MS Office programs...impose an additional load on any system.

I don't know how you are "measuring" your perception of "slow"...I'm curious as to how you determie that the system "slows" when updating.

I don't know anything about Chrome...but, if it's like IE (the only browser I have any experience with), a new process opens in Task Manager for every Window that is opened...and there is 1 process running all the time, reflecting the install of the browser.

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-xp/230010-dfrgntfs-exe-when-idle.html

When the Windows defrag is running in the background...and you haven't started it...my experience is that may be indicative of a problem with the hard drive or a system that sorely needs to have chkdsk /r run, then a manual defrag started.

System manufacturer and model?

How large is your Windows partitio...how much free space does it have right now?

I was running defrag just now.
For eg, my startup time after format takes like 2minutes max.
Now it takes like around 8 minutes?
Icon like bluetooth and skype is missing next to the time recently. I'm not sure what happen :-/

My firefox 4 have been slow ever since i format my laptop.
I have only open 2 program that is 1 chrome and 1 firefox but the cpu usage is fluctuating from 40-60%

Dell inspiron 6400
Free space 38% out of 110gb.
2gb ram, 1.55mhz duo core.

Download Process Explorer: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx
Unzip ProcessExplorer.zip, and double click on procexp.exe to run the program.
Click on View > Select Colunms.
In addition to already pre-selected options, make sure, the Command Line is selected, and press OK.
Go File>Save As, and save the report as Procexp.txt.
Attach the file to your next reply.

In your current log I don't see any issues.
System Idle Process (CPU NOT used) is listed at 99.22%

You may want try to run some programs, which, in your opinion, are causing higher CPU usage and post another PE log.

the lag occurred randomly.

It seems that firefox is running on lower memory usage after i did a minor adjustment to the hardware acceleration option last night. From 300,000 K to 113,000K now..

Is there any reason for some icon near the clock to disappear?
I should have sound, bluetooth, wireless icon etc but now its gone. It still visible last 2 weeks ago but not now.

I still don't see much.
System Idle Process at 83.08%, which is acceptable with couple of programs running.

Firefox is known for some serious RAM usage. The longer you have it open, especially, if you have a quite a number of add-ins, the more RAM will be in use.
In my case (and I'm an add-on freak), my Firefox will reach 500-600MB of RAM usage after a while.
If you have enough RAM installed, it shouldn't concern you much.
I simply restart Firefox once in a while and it takes care of the issue.

As for your systray icons, that would be a subject to some new topic.
