I am having a hard time understanding. However let me try. If you connect to the internet through a router your PC's I'P address and your "global Internet IP address" (the one people actually see) will be different for instance my IP address from my personal router is 192.168.2.4 and my Global IP address is 98.30.74.***** (I omitted the last octet for security). The reason being your router is assigned an Ip address from your ISP and then it "routes" it to the IP address it assigns through DHCP to your computer (this is how a router works) every time you send information out on the internet, your router through "NAT" translates your IP address into the Global IP address in the "host" portion of the TCP/IP Packet. This IP address is then routed on the internet. Your private address that your router assigns is reserved as a private or Inside local Address and is not able to be routed on the internet.

Hope that answered your question.

The way I read the question is if you're browsing for Norton shouldn't that be the only IP you see. That being the one to Norton.com.

Not necessarily. If you have email open, that IP may or may not be visible. Malware tools that auto update might be there. Chat clients may be there. Any auto updating software may be visible at the time you decide to look.

The down side is you might see, malware 'phoning home' too.

You need to look at each and every IP you see and verify the connection and it's validity.

The Internet is so big, so powerful and pointless that for some people it is a complete substitute for life.

All I was trying to say was if a company (Symantec) that has a donaun, IP address of say 216.12.145.20. Shouldnt it always be that? Thats the IIP I need to have to connect Symantecs webpage. Because I know what the IP is and it wasnt that last night. Im trying very hard not help my helper see what I see in a way theyy would understand that Im a Public Servant and not the computer guy. Im sorry if it wasnt clear in what I wrote but you have no idea what this laptop has done in regards to my family. Everybody thinks they are right. I I know Im going on and on . Last rant it was taken in to the "professionls" to fix or repair it for $300. They told my family if they couldnt fix it they would call before Im guessing giving them a new harddrive or reformatting it. They didnt call. They didnt even back it up. We lost almost 2 years of our life. Long story short the took the money and said it was fixed. I wasnt.............

I had to explain they didnt do anything because most of the software had the original install date back in 2009. It was supposedly restored as new (factory) last November. They f inally believed me. Bottom line how do I show all this stuff to you guys and gals?

Help me help you.

Thanls for listening.

If they have more than one web sever IE:Google the IP address may be different each time you log on. Also ftp servers may have multiple addresses as well.

Edit: this is why we have DNS severs to resolve the name to an available IP address. If you need your computer to go to the same IP address you can edit the host file in Windows to reflect your changes

Now I think I got it. When you go to try and go to Symantec's website it keeps redirecting you to another site yes/no?

Please download MiniToolBox To the infected computer's desktop and run it. Checkmark following checkboxes:
  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
Click Go and post the result From the (Result.txt) that should appear on your desktop (if you downloaded it to a folder it will the result.txt will be located in whatever folder the file is in) . Using a computer you can post to Bleeping Computer with

Your pings to Yahoo and To Google look ok and there is nothing wrong with the host file. Are the symptoms as I described them in the previous post? You are trying to go to Symantec.com and your browser is going to a different page?

Again This looks fine accept. I am still wondering what if the problem you are facing is you can not go to the website symantec.com and the browser is redirecting you. Your connections to the router and the modem are just fine.

You should edit your post to block out your IPV4 Address under Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection. This is your Modem's IP address and we don't want that to fall into the wrong hands.

this maybe why you are having issues with connecting to Symantec:
