I just came to visit my grandparents and their computer is very slow, freezes often, they are supposed to have Trend Micro on the computer, but if you click on the program, nothing opens. I have 2 weeks to try to get this fixed.

I was told it is a new computer. It does not have any dust inside and the fans are all working.

I can not get DDS to finish. It freezes after the 1st line, and will not do anything else.

Update: Possibly ICKiller trojan, said port 1028 was open, and a few others.

Google seems to be giving false leads, also.

Hello and welcome to the forums!

My secret agent name on the forums is SweetTech (you can call me ST for short), it's a pleasure to meet you. :)

I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems.

If you have since resolved the issues you were originally experiencing, or have received help elsewhere, please inform me so that this topic can be closed.

If you have not, please adhere to the guidelines below and then follow instructions as outlined further below:

  • Logs from malware removal programs (OTL is one of them) can take some time to analyze. I need you to be patient while I analyze any logs you post. Please remember, I am a volunteer, and I do have a life outside of these forums.
  • Please make sure to carefully read any instruction that I give you. Attention to detail is important! Since I cannot see or directly interact with your computer I am dependent on you to "be my eyes" and provide as much information as you can regarding the current state of your computer.
  • If you're not sure, or if something unexpected happens, do NOT continue! Stop and ask!
  • If I instruct you to download a specific tool in which you already have, please delete the copy that you have and re-download the tool. The reason I ask you to do this is because these tools are updated fairly regularly.
  • Do not do things I do not ask for, such as running a spyware scan on your computer. The one thing that you should always do, is to make sure sure that your anti-virus definitions are up-to-date!
  • Please do not use the Attachment feature for any log file. Do a Copy/Paste of the entire contents of the log file and submit it inside your post.
  • I am going to stick with you until ALL malware is gone from your system. I would appreciate it if you would do the same. From this point, we're in this together ;)
Because of this, you must reply within three days
failure to reply will result in the topic being closed!
  • Please do not PM me directly for help. If you have any questions, post them in this topic.
  • Lastly, I am no magician. I will try very hard to fix your issues, but no promises can be made. Also be aware that some infections are so severe that you might need to resort to reformatting and reinstalling your operating system.
Don't worry, this only happens in severe cases, but it sadly does happen. Be prepared to back up your data. Have means of backing up your data available.

Thank you for taking the time to look at this. It's still running really slow. I did update the java and flash after I first posted.

Hi!

Thank you for taking the time to look at this. It's still running really slow. I did update the java and flash after I first posted.

No problem, I'm happy to lend my expertise to help you get things fixed.

Thanks for letting me know about updating Java & Flash.

In all honesty, I'm not really seeing anything too alarming in your log files.

Just see a few orphaned entries, and a possible issue with a seting. I'm going to fix both of these, and then have you run a few additional scans for me to review.

We need to run an OTL Fix

Scanning with MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (v1.50) and save it to your desktop.
Download Link 1
Download Link 2Malwarebytes' may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.

  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet and double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
For instructions with screenshots, please refer to this Guide.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • Malwarebytes will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.
  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button and continue.
  • If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
  • Under the Scanner tab, make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • When finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box, then click the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked and then click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows the database version and your operating system.
  • Exit Malwarebytes' when done.
Note: If Malwarebytes' encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally will prevent Malwarebytes' from removing all the malware.

I can not seem to get the ESET online scanner to load in the web browser. I have tried on and off compatibility view, and it just won't go. I will install the Active X over and over, and it will refresh and ask again, and then after about 10 minutes, ask again to install the Active X.

I tried the ESET again this morning, when the computer was first turned on, instead of when it's been running for a while, and after 2 hours, finally completed it!

Run this tool:

Running ComboFix
Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
  • IMPORTANT - Disable your Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

Note: If AVG or CA Internet Security Suite is installed, you must remove these programs before using Combofix. If for some reason these applications will not uninstall, try uninstalling with AppRemover by Opswat.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Posted Image

  • Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Posted Image

  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.

Please make sure you include the ComboFix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

I can not get combofix to run. I downloaded it from your link, then it wanted to update, so I did that. It spends hours stuck at this scan should not take more than 10 minutes...etc

I also can not run, stop, or uninstall Trend Micro Internet Security. I click on the program, nothing happens. I do not see it running in the bottom right task bar. Combofix says it is still on, but I can't find it. I tried to uninstall it, and it said there was an interruption in the uninstallation, and nothing would be changed.

Please exit out of the current ComboFix scan. If it gives you issues exiting, you may need to perform a hard reboot, and push the power button in.

Boot into Safe Mode and attempt to run the ComboFix scan.

Entering Safe Mode

  • Restart your computer.
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY repeatedly,
  • This will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll to Safe Mode
  • Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard
  • Go into your usual account

It won't run in Safe mode either. And I still can't turn off, run, or uninstall Trend Micro. When I clicked on the Trend Micro program to try to turn it off in safe mode during one try, the cmd box popped up then went away.

When I click on Combofix in safe mode, it does the backup (software, then system), and in the blue box there is an error message so fast before going to the next screen that I can't read it.

Should I download combofix again and try it in safe mode without updating it?

I am going to try downloading it again and using it in Safe Mode

I deleted the old one from where I downloaded it to the desktop, and emptied the recycle bin.

If I go to My Computer and click on the C drive, there is now an icon that looks like a computer that is called Combofix. If I click on it, it takes me back to My Computer.

Here are the properties:

Combofix
Folder
Location C:\
Size 20.5 MB
Size on disk 21.1 MB
271 Files 1 Folder

Where did this come from?

That's a component of the ComboFix tool. Please leave that alone for now, it'll disappear on it's own when ComboFix is run again.
