I checked the Event Viewer log and I saw 4 instances of this error. These 4 instances happened today:

"The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort0."

I never had this kind of error once.

This is the XML view:

- <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">
- <System>
<Provider Name="atapi" />
<EventID Qualifiers="49156">11</EventID>

<TimeCreated SystemTime="2011-05-17T08:38:03.439Z" />
<EventRecordID>336345</EventRecordID>
<Channel>System</Channel>

</System>

</EventData>
</Event>

* I didn't installed any hardware, nor installed any software this past week.
* After this error, I didn't noticed any weird thing on my laptop. My laptop was running as usual, but I am troubled by it.
* I'm also running Vista
* I ran Malwarebytes (full scan) and Kaspersky (quick-scan). It didn't detect anything.

* I would like to know if this kind of error is a critical one. I would also like to know what should I do. Thanks.

Are you having any problems with the system?

No. It runs as usual, I think. But I want to know if this kind of error implies something wrong with my hardware or it happens once in a while.

Thanks, anyway.

First of all, I strongly suggest you stay out of the Event log unless you have a specific reason to be there. It will only drive you crazy.

Second, if you insist on pursuing a non-problem, you might want to read this: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-hardware/atapi-event-id11-the-driver-detected-a-controller/7fdd47da-7c86-4f7b-bdf7-096bb4f059f4

The forum posts seems complicated. Anyway, thanks. I'll just report again if I see problems in my laptop.
