I have seen this hidden files/folders thing and can recreate it on my system.
What is the malware that seems to have this characteristic of hiding these files - it seems kind of like a new thing.
For a small test, I hid the files in my iTunes folder and then my Start, Programs, iTunes folder was (Empty) - when in fact the files where really just hidden.
I can navigate to my iTunes installation folder (which would look like there was nothing in it), enable Show hidden files and folders, then I can "see" the hidden files there, then remove the Hidden attribute and everything is back to normal.
I am curious to know what this unhide.exe does... Does it somehow figure out and go through every item in the Start menu Programs list and unhide all the files in all the folders under each Program item?
If I run unhide.exe on my system with my hidden iTunes files, will unhide.exe "fix" that for me? I am a little nervous about it since I don't know what it does.
I know I can fix my iTunes folder myself, I am just trying to understand how this works (if it is not a trade secret), and if there would be any negative effects of unhiding all the things in a Start, Programs folders?
Perhaps only Grinler knows...
