Please give me some more details: what version of Windows is this, and what did happen that could have caused this problem?

regards, Elise

No, they're not. I only now saw your driver.sh report, please make a new reply next time, otherwise I'll not be notified. :)

Can you please answer the questions in my previous post?

regards, Elise

Well, that shows we do not warn for the use of keygens and the like for nothing.

What about the version of Windows?

Hi, thank you for the upload, but next time, please do not attach it! We have special upload channels for malware, so that not everyone can download possible harmful files to avoid the risk of inadvertently infectiong a computer.

Please do not run other scans on your own, instead run the fix below which should get you booting again (if you have still the xPUD CD/USB, you can use that, no need to create a new one. Please follow the instructions carefully. Failure to do so, can result in permanent data loss!!

Try this please. You will need a USB drive.

Download GETxPUD.exe to the desktop of your clean computer
  • Run GETxPUD.exe
  • A new folder will appear on the desktop.
  • Open the GETxPUD folder and click on the get&burn.bat
  • The program will download xpud_0.9.2.iso, and upon finished will open BurnCDCC ready to burn the image.
  • Click on Start and follow the prompts to burn the image to a CD.
  • Download xPUDtestdisk.exe and save it to the USB device
  • Double click xPUDtestdisk.exe to extract the contents to your USB device
  • Remove the USB & CD and insert it in the sick computer
  • Boot the Sick computer with the CD you just burned
  • The computer must be set to boot from the CD
  • Gently tap F12 and choose to boot from the CD
  • Follow the prompts
  • A Welcome to xPUD screen will appear
  • Press File
  • Expand mnt
  • sda1,2...usually corresponds to your HDD
  • sdb1 is likely your USB
  • Click on the folder that represents your USB drive (sdb1 ?)
  • Press Tool at the top
  • Choose Open Terminal
  • Type testdisk/testdisk_static
  • Press Enter
The first screen will present log options - press Enter to continue.

Posted Image

TestDisk will scan the system and show drive information.
If more than 1 drive, select the correct drive, make sure [Proceed] is selected then press Enter to continue.

Posted Image

Select [Intel] partiton and press Enter to continue.

Posted Image

Select [MBR Code] and press Enter to continue.

Posted Image

Type Y when prompted to write a new mbr code to the first sector, then confirm at the next screen by typing Y again.

Posted Image

Press Q repeatedly until TestDisk exits then reboot.

regards, Elise

Hi, glad to hear it worked.
I analyzed the file myself and also uploaded it so others may have a look at it. It was most definitely causing the rootkit infection.

Please let me know if you need any other help, otherwise this topic will be closed.

regards, Elise

Simply put, if the scanners you used do not have that particular file in their database, they will not recognize it. Add to that the fact that cracks and the like are not only illegal, but also the most common way to spread malware (so the chance that a crack contains some form of malware is rather large), and you have a pretty big risk that, even though scanners say nothing is found, a crack will drop malware on your computer.

This particular one was recognized by ESET and Avira.

I hope this answers your question.

Please read these advices, in order to prevent reinfecting your PC:
  • Install and update the following programs regularly:
    • an outbound firewall. If you are connected to the internet through a router, you are already behind a hardware firewall and as such you do not need an extra software firewall.
A comprehensive tutorial and a list of possible firewalls can be found here.
    • an AntiVirus Software
It is imperative that you update your AntiVirus Software on regular basis. If you do not update your AntiVirus Software then it will not be able to catch the latest threats.
    • an Anti-Spyware program
Malware Byte's Anti Malware is an excellent Anti-Spyware scanner. It's scan times are usually under ten minutes, and has excellent detection and removal rates.
SUPERAntiSpyware is another good scanner with high detection and removal rates.
Both programs are free for non commercial home use but provide a resident and do not nag if you purchase the paid versions.
    • Spyware Blaster
A tutorial for Spywareblaster can be found here. If you wish, the commercial version provides automatic updating.
  • Keep Windows (and your other Microsoft software) up to date!
I cannot stress how important this is enough. Often holes are found in Internet Explorer or Windows itself that require patching. Sometimes these holes will allow an attacker unrestricted access to your computer.
Therefore, please, visit the Microsoft Update Website and follow the on screen instructions to setup Microsoft Update. Also follow the instructions to update your system. Please REBOOT and repeat this process until there are no more updates to install!!
  • Keep your other software up to date as well
Software does not need to be made by Microsoft to be insecure. You can use the Secunia Online Software occasionally to help you check for out of date software on yourmachine.
  • Stay up to date!
The MOST IMPORTANT part of any security setup is keeping the software up to date. Malware writers release new variants every single day. If your software updates don't keep up, then the malware will always be one step ahead. Not a good thing.
