Hi all, I am new here and I hope someone can help me. I am following instructions from Major Geeks on removing a malware infection on my computer. Everything has been going smoothly until I got to the part where I run ComboFix. After it installed the Microsoft Recovery Console (which I had a successful install of) it went into the scan but nothing has happened now for over an hour. Nothing. I never got any warnings about being connected to the internet or changing the clock. Nothing. At this point I am afraid to close it after reading all the warnings about not touching the computer when ComboFix is running. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do now?
Thank you all!

As a general policy, Bleeping Computer does not offer advice on how to run ComboFix unless we asked someone to run it or if there is a problem with the computer caused by running the tool.

With that said, there are circumstances ComboFix will hang, crash or stall at various stages due to malware interference, failure to disable other real-time protection tools or the presence of CD Emulators (Daemon Tools, Alchohol 120%, Astroburn, AnyDVD) so that it does not complete successfully. Also, depending on how badly a system is infected, ComboFix may take longer to complete its routine than it normally does or fail to run properly. While that is not normal behavior, it is not unusual. In such cases, it is helpful to know at what stage CF stalled/crashed and to provide that information to the Helper who is assisting you so they can investigate. This is just another reason why you should only use ComboFix under supervision.

If you were advised to run ComboFix by a trained expert at another security forum like Major Geeks then you need to contact that person for assistance. That Helper should be able to address any issues you encountered when running the tool as they should have the knowledge and resources to do so. Further, following advice outside of a topic where you are already receiving assistance may cause confusion and could complicate the malware removal process or make things worst which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.

Thank you for your reply, I will see what they recommend I do at this point. I don't know that it got very far into the scan, as it seemed to freeze from the outset.
Thanks again!
