I've browsed the forums and see I'm not the only one encountering this problem!

I recently encountered the Windows Recovery virus and was able to remove it from my computer. I'm still having some residual side effects such as audio ads running in the background, re-direct problems when using Internet Explorer, popup ads while in IE and various "internet Explorer Script Error" popups. It looks like my Start menu and Desktop icons have changed too.

I'm on an older HP Pavilion running Windows XP Home Edition, version 2002, with Service Pack 3 and using IE8 and Mozilla Firefox. I installed HijackThis as well as TDSKiller just to see what it shows but Killer won't run even with the suggested name change.

Any assistance you can provide would be much appreciated! Thanks!

UhOh. Sorry guys! I think I posted in the wrong Forum.

Moderator, can you move to the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs forum.

Thanks!

Still looking for help!

I followed the Prep instructions and have downloaded the following programs as specified or suggested in various places on BC (not necessarily listed specified order):

Rkill
Malwarebyte Anti Malware (full scan)
SuperAntispyware (portable)(full scan)
TDKiller (won't run)
GMER (full scan)
HitmanPro-3
HijackThis
Ad-Aware (suggested by BC as "must have" software)
Spybot Search & Destroy
(because it was on this PC from awhile back)

All have found and corrected/removed various trojans/virus's. I'm still encountering IE Script errors and background audio ads and now I can't seem to get the errors to stop coming.

What other steps can I take to get rid of this problem??

Thanks.

Not sure why some postings get near instant responses from BC and some just sit there with no response at all.

I finally figured it out for myself and resolved the issue. You can close this.
