I have an XP Home version machine that has been acting screwy lately. Hard drive spins a lot. It's got over 100gbs of free space. It's defragged. I think it's infected with something, but i have ran a bunch of malware detectors and haven't really found much, except for spyware/adware. No rootkits were found, and no worms or trojans found. I purchased some software that downloads videos from internet sites, and lately, that software has been screwy, because it keeps on asking for the registration key everytime i boot up. I input it, and then 30 seconds later, the software shuts down. No warning, nothing. It just disappears from my screen. Any suggestions?
