Hi there,

Recently had to wipe my HDD after a severe malware problem. Foolishly forgot to backup my drivers. System is about 3 years old and I never got a CD with it. It isn't a branded system so I don't know which components I have! I am showing the following "unknown devices" on device manager:

Ethernet Controller
PCI Device
SM Bus Controller
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

Seeing as the ethernet controller is one issue, I have no internet on the system. I read a previous post and downloaded Speccy and ran it. As I cannot upload the snapshot, I saved it as a text file. Not sure if it is useful:

Try this for each item

Ethernet Controller- Take the NIC card out and record all the available information printed on the card and the chips, do a goole search on any and all information till you identify the card so you can find drivers for it. Hopefully you have acess to another PC wiyh internet!!

PCI Device- Look at you PCI slots to see What cards you may have there. Take them out. Identify them as above to help you find drivers for them. A PCI item may also be onboard, intergrated on the motherboard. So you may have to assess what is showing up and indentified in the device manager and what you remember was there on you computer before.

SM Bus Controller- by looking at the information above, this PC is custom built? You should be able to get a manufacture name and modle number off the motherboard. go to the manufactures site and find drivers for you motherboard for this one

Video Controller (VGA Compatible)-determine whether you have an onboard or plug-in video card!! Onboard video will be part of the motherboard drivers and a plug-in card can be identified as above, and googled to find drivers for it

Good Luck
I am hungry for knowledge

What you can do is download a software like CPUZ and get the hardware info. Then you can download the respective drivers and install them. It might take some time to find them, but its worth it. Once you have all the drivers assembled, burn them to a CD.

This would appear to be your motherboard: http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=ConRoe1333-D667%20R2.0

According to the information there, here are some links for the drivers:

Stevolution you should go back to your opening post and remove your Windows product key from it, it is the key listed below in bold text where it says Serial Number, but of course in my example below I used X's to hide the remainder of your key, you should edit that product key out of your post altogether, or do to it like I did below change most of it to X's.

Operating System
MS Windows XP Home 32-bit SP1
Installation Date: 04 May 2011, 23:42
Serial Number: J7GW6-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

Thanks in advance.

Bruce.
