I recently reinstalled Windows XP on my other Computer, I can't get the inernet to work.

- I have a netgear wgr614v10 router connected to a modem

- i dont have any drivers installed because i dont have a cd with drivers, and i dont know what to download to get it to work.

People told me it has to do with the network card driver or something but im not sure.

if i type 192.168.1.1 into the url bar it doesnt load anything, the router install cd says the ethernet cable is disabled or not installed (2 computers are connected to the router, this one and the one im trying to fix and it worked fine before i reinstalled)

How do I connect the computer to the internet, and how do i find out what drivers i need?

Way to much info.

OK. So we know it`s a Gateway E series desk top.
What I am really looking for is the exact 4XXX model number.

Gateways Support site list the E series as including a 4100 through a 46xx with some possible letters included in the name.
The four digit number is all we need to track down the needed driver(s). Please post that and only that.

It should be right on the front of the case or on a sticker.

Nope still not it.

Some where on the tower should be a number\letter combination. It will probably start with an E followed by a four digit number starting with a 4.
It may be followed by another letter or two.

example E-4100

Still not what we are looking for.

Hang in there. I`m going to post for an assist from the rest of the crew. Perhaps one of them has a Gateway and can point us in the right direction to find the model number.

Lets give this a try.

  • Go to Piriform's website, and click the big Posted Image button. Next, click Download from Piriform.com (the FileHippo link requires an extra click). Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version. You will now be asked where you want to save the file. The best place to put it is the Desktop, as it will be easy to find later.
  • After the file finishes downloading, you are ready to run Speccy. If you downloaded the installer, simply double-click on it and follow the prompts until installation is complete. If you downloaded the portable version, you will need to unzip it before use. Right-click the ZIP file and click Extract all. Click Next. Open up the extracted folder and double-click on Speccy.
  • Once inside Speccy, it will look similar to this (with your computer's specifications, of course):

    Posted Image

Now, at the top, click File > Publish Snapshot You will see the following prompt:

    Posted Image

Click Yes , then Copy to Clipboard

    Posted Image

Now, right-click on any empty space in your reply box and click Paste.

You have just posted your specs!

No problem.

If I am not around, I`m not in a lot till later on Saturdays, and have a Family related house call either Sat. or Sun, another Advisor may pick this up or I`ll be sure to check back at my first opportunity.

Hi Stewie0888,

Your network controller driver is located here.
You will want to download the file: PROWin32.exe

Your onboard Video driver is here.
You will want to download this file: win2k_xp14103.exe

With these 2 drivers, you should now have a good looking video resolution and a working network card.

@ThunderZ - Hope you don't mind me chiming in here.

Hope this helps,
Techextreme
