I would like someone to guide me through fixing a bug with both my browsers. When I receive emails with PDF files, I can't open them but I can open PDF files outside of the internet. I was using Firefox 3.6 most of the time and I was getting an error message 203. But the instructions on troubleshooting the add-ons are so complicated I couldn't figure out how and what to do.
I just downloaded Firefox 4.0 and when I tried opening the PDF file, it brought up a window asking me how I wanted to open Adobe. I selected "normal" and then the error box showed up again. When I try opening the file in Internet Explorer, it comes up "Page can't load and says my Adobe edition must be v8 or v9". But I HAVE Adobe v9 installed.
Can somebody tell me in plain english how to fix this? I did not have this problem until I installed Adobe Digital Editions. I don't know if it is conflicting with the Adobe reader or what. I am running WinXP/Pro.
You can try to uninstall Adobe Reader (33.5 MB), download and install Foxit PDF Reader(3.5MB) from HERE. It's a much smaller file to download and uses a lot less resources than Adobe Reader. Note: When installing FoxitReader, make sure to UN-check any pre-checked toolbar, or any other garbage.
I am having a similar problem, the big difference is it is only IE8 that won't open pdf's within the browser. I did install Foxit and I get the same results. I trust it is OK to post here, or do I need to open my own.
