I am trying to setup a home group. I have created a Home Group on the main computer which has the printer hooked up directly. The printer is a Brother MFC-425CN. When i try to join the home group from my laptop, it says there is no home group to join on the network. Any ideas?

Yes, the Network Discovery is turned on for both the computers. The main computer which has the printer hooked up to is wired, the other 2 laptops are running wireless. The wired computer is connected to a Netgear Router.

Have you tried disabling your firewall and anti virus to see if these are interfering?

Not knowing what steps you used to make this connection I will provide a link to a very comprehensive installation guide for Home Group.

I have only tried disabling ZoneAlarm but it still didn't find it. All the computers has Microsoft Security Essential as the antivirus. I will try that guide when after Sunday Mass.

Now that you seem to have the network connection issues straightened out. I would delete the printer on the PC(s) having trouble connecting to it then go back through the routine of re-establishing the connection.

Let`s run down the check list.

First. I will assume at one time the printer was connected and worked from the two wireless laptops?

Let`s try this.

Disable all firewalls.
Have not used ZA in a while but you used to have to remove a check mark from "start ZA with Windows". Restart the PC. There should be no ZA processes running.

Now go to add printers on the lap tops. You can try to have it automatically search, or manually enter the name of the PC and the "share as" name of the printer which can be found in the printer properties page on the PC it is directly attached to.

You would have something looking like this. \\PC name printer is attached to\printer share as name

Have only done this once on a Win7 PC but am pretty sure of it. Or should at least gat you close if the automatic search does not work.

Only my laptop has ZA installed. It keeps saying you need a valid network name.
