Hello,

I seem to have got Malware Doctor on my laptop. It actually shows up on my program list.

I found instructions for removal at your site bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-antimalware-doctor

However the virus won't let ANY PROGRAMS start. When I click on an *.exe file, it opens the dialog box "Open With".

Suppose I click on firefox.exe, it will open the "Open With" box and ask me to choose a program to start firefox with. If I choose firefox from the list, it will give a couple of file not found etc. messages but finally open firefox.

However it does not start executable files such as rkill.com or iexplore.exe which are on your list of fiThankles on the removal page.

Also it does not seem to recognize a jump drive when I put it in the USB port.

Thanks in advance.

Jay

Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<==. If you cannot complete a step, skip it and continue.

Then post your DDS and GMER logs as a reply to this topic. Once you have done that I will remove my reply and consolidate the posts so that you retain your correct place in the queue.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the reply and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I can't produce the logs as I can't run any programs.

When I click on an executable file, instead of running it a dialog box opens. The box is titled "Opens With" and lists programs such as IE, Firefox, Word, etc.

Normally the above dialog box should open when the file does not have an extension. However now the dialog box opens even for executable files.

Best,

Jay

EDIT: Posts merged. In that case just hold tight until one of our malware experts gets to your topic. ~Budapest

Please visit the File Association Fixpage and click "EXE File Association Fix". Follow the instructions at the top of the page.

After this has been done please download and run Combofix.

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop making sure you rename it comfix.exe
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications including Firewalls, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. (Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive.)
  • Double click on Comfix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

If you have any problems please stop and let me know.

Hi Mole,

Thanks for your help.

1) The File Association Fix worked. It also enabled me to retrieve my emails from Outlook, so big thanks for that.

2) ComboFix.exe did not want to work at first. I had to un-install the free version of AVG that I had on my laptop and after that ComboFix did work. I could not find the file ComboFix.txt but am attaching the log file that it created.

3) Firefox is re-directing to spam pages (I am posting this using Chrome). Maybe I have to re-install Firefox.

Thanks again,

Jay

We need to rerun Combofix to remove some more things. Reinstalling Firefox may not solve the redirection but we will be dealing with that during this series of clean-ups.

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the box below into it:

File::
c:\windows\Gsejadufodizir.bin
c:\windows\iqetacokuvo.dll

Folder::
c:\documents and settings\Jayanta\Application Data\91D1347513E5C8EDCD87C36252658E8E

Registry::
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run-]
"fitsub70rlz.exe"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run-]
"Gcuhunumat"=-

RegLock::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Classes\CLSID\{A483C63A-CDBC-426E-BF93-872502E8144E}]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Classes\CLSID\{A483C63A-CDBC-426E-BF93-872502E8144E}\Elevation]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Classes\CLSID\{A483C63A-CDBC-426E-BF93-872502E8144E}\LocalServer32]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Classes\CLSID\{A483C63A-CDBC-426E-BF93-872502E8144E}\TypeLib]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Classes\Interface\{E3F2C3CB-5EB8-4A04-B22C-7E3B4B6AF30F}]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Classes\Interface\{E3F2C3CB-5EB8-4A04-B22C-7E3B4B6AF30F}\ProxyStubClsid32]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Classes\Interface\{E3F2C3CB-5EB8-4A04-B22C-7E3B4B6AF30F}\TypeLib]

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as Comfix.exe (called ComboFix.exe in the below graphic)

Posted Image

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

If the program requests for you to update Combofix then click Yes.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

Hi Mole,

The laptop is dead. But following your instructions I was able to retrieve the data I needed, so I will just go ahead and re-install the software.

After running File Association Fix I was able to get Outlook working and retrieve my emails which was very important, so mission successful.

After Combofix I opened Firefox and was getting re-directed. I then opened IE and re-direction again, and then something started downloading and it said it was performing a virus scan (fake one). I shut the laptop down but apparently interrupting whatever was being installed (?) means that now the laptop won't even start up. Not a big loss as I have saved my emails on a jump drive.

So thanks again and look out for a donation to Unite from Jayanta.

Best,

Jay

Not a complete success but I'm glad you retrieved what you needed. I will close the topic and thanks for the donation. :thumbup2:
