My symptoms are that I hear constant clicking noises, and many times does a message come up saying that a program has crashed and needs to close. 99% of the time its DrWatson Debugger, but its also sometimes my DELL Wireless Card. It eats up all my resources so I can't do anything. I'd attempt to system restore, but I can't seem to restore in Safe Mode, and if I go to Normal Mode, the Debugger crashes, so it wouldn't give me a chance.

Earlier I had ran Malwarebytes in Safe Mode. It found 8 infected files and then deleted them. If it matters any, I had the Google Redirect rootkit too, but I don't know if that got deleted with the 8 files.
I am using Windows XP Service Pack 3.

Here is my HJT log.

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Somethings to remember while we are working together.

  • Do not run any other tool untill instructed to do so!
  • Please Do not Attach logs or put in code boxes.
  • Tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
  • Tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
  • Do not run anything while running a fix.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

Click on the Watch Topic Button and select Immediate Notification and click on proceed, this will help you to get notified faster when I have replied and make the cleaning process faster.

In order for me to see the status of the infection I will need a new set of logs to start with.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Double click DeFogger to run the tool.
  • The application window will appear
  • Click the Disable button to disable your CD Emulation drivers
  • Click Yes to continue
  • A 'Finished!' message will appear
  • Click OK
  • DeFogger may ask you to reboot the machine, if it does - click OK
Do not re-enable these drivers until otherwise instructed.

Download DDS:

  • Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the links below and save it to your desktop:

    Posted Image

    • Double-Click on dds.scr and a command window will appear. This is normal.
    • Shortly after two logs will appear:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • A window will open instructing you save & post the logs
  • Save the logs to a convenient place such as your desktop
  • Copy the contents of both logs & post in your next reply

I have to do all of this in Safe Mode due to DrWatson taking up too much physical memory for me. Defogger worked fine. DDS worked fine and I have included the logs. However, when trying RKUnhooker, thats where I reach problems. It says "Error loading/opening driver" in Safe Mode, then I click OK and it closes. I tried to do it on the normal Desktop, but I got a Physical Memory Dump Error. If anything in the future does work, I'll let you know.
I've also found out that this malware is denying my laptop internet access with my Wireless Dell Card. Even in Safe Mode with Networking, my internet will not connect to my laptop.

Hello

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links. I want you to save it to the desktop and run it from there.
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?

Combofix tells me that the package has been compromised, its not safe to continue, and that I may be infected with "Virut".
When going back to the desktop, DrWatson keeps showing, but instead saying that there has been an application error with it. Instruction 0x3003aa16 memory reference 0x00a65a4d. However, the computer appears to have improved. I can now see my other programs running in the background. Application Error message however keeps appearing, with a lot of Command Prompts showing up after a while, wuwj.exe. I decide to attempt to open RKunhooker, but the dwwin.exe application error keeps popping up. Windows Explorer works fine, but when attempting to open up any other program I get the dwwin.exe error.

Alas, I could not get Combofix to run, and I can't get a log.

Hello

I want you to run this - http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/unhide.exe

after you run that

Scan with exeHelper:

Please download exeHelper to your desktop.

  • Double-click on exeHelper.com to run the fix.
  • A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed.
  • Post the contents of exehelperlog.txt (Will be created in the directory where you ran exeHelper.com, and should open at the end of the scan)

Note: If the window shows a message that says "Error deleting file", please re-run the program before posting a log - and post the two logs together (they will both be in the one file).

: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware :

  • Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is Checked (ticked) except items in the C:\System Volume Information folder and click on Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. please copy and paste the log into your next reply
    • If you accidently close it, the log file is saved here and will be named like this:
    • C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Removed the findings and restarted my computer. I still get the annoying dwwin message, but it seems to have slowed down in frequency. I have been allowed internet access again, however.

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

1. Close any open browsers.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note:Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

I ran Combofix, and I got the same potential Virut message as before. Just asking, is it important if I run Combofix in Safe Mode or not?
