Problems started with "Anti-Malware Doctor" pop-ups and Google redirects. Progressed to preventing .exe files from opening. Now receiving frequent pop ups stating:
"Host Process for Windows Services stopped working and was closed
A problem caused the application to stop working correctly.
Windows will notify you if a solution is available."

This is often followed by a crash and blue screen stating something about "IRQL not less or equal" which is gone before I can read further.

Also getting frequent popups stating that windows can not display a message on the desktop. When I click display the message it is sometimes an ie browser window and sometimes a phoney vista security center window.

Everything is running very slow. I tried to fix it myself first and I think I made things worse. Thanks in advance for any help.

Just adding HijackThis Log.

Any help would really be appreciated. I need my computer back.

Thanks

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Somethings to remember while we are working together.

  • Do not run any other tool untill instructed to do so!
  • Please Do not Attach logs or put in code boxes.
  • Tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
  • Tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
  • Do not run anything while running a fix.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

Click on the Watch Topic Button and select Immediate Notification and click on proceed, this will help you to get notified faster when I have replied and make the cleaning process faster.

In order for me to see the status of the infection I will need a new set of logs to start with.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

    Posted Image

    • Double-Click on dds.scr and a command window will appear. This is normal.
    • Shortly after two logs will appear:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • A window will open instructing you save & post the logs
  • Save the logs to a convenient place such as your desktop
  • Copy the contents of both logs & post in your next reply

Thank You for your reply. Sorry for my confusion on how to post the logs. Same symptoms as before, only redirects have been less frequent and blue screens have been more frequent. Here are the logs requested:

Hello

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links. I want you to save it to the desktop and run it from there.
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?

Double clicked combofix, while it was opening, the computer just shutdown on its own. I waited a little bit and turned it back on. It got to a blank black screen with a mouse pointer and stopped. I didn't want to do anything else without hearing from you so I left it like that and wrote this from my phone.

ok lets try to restart the computer

try to go into safe mode

Boot into Safe Mode

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.

try last known config that worked

did combofix do anything - it sounds lioke it did not have time to do anything

I get past the first screen which is a big sony vaio logo, then the screen goes blank. Nothing but a blinking _ Which is in the upper right corner of the screen

I followed all the steps through booting my sick computer. Unfortunately, Pressing f12 when rebooting has no effect. Neither does any other key for that matter. The computer just freezes at that blank screen and wont do anything else. I have a vaio system recovery cd set. I found that it will boot up to the vaio recovery console where I can get to a command prompt and other recovery tools if that helps.

Sorry. I've been out of town. I was doing some disaster relief work in Tuscaloosa,AL.
Kind of made my computer problems seem not so important. That said, I'd still appreciate help resolving the issue(s).

I don't have access to another computer that can burn a cd. The computers I have access to at work have very restrictive user privelages ( no downloads, no burning cd's...). Any other options?
Also, no matter how or when I press F12 or F8, the computer still goes to the blank screen and freezes. So, I don't think its going to let me make it boot from a cd unless its like the vaio recovery cd's and does it automatically.
I appoligize again for my slow response and thank you for your continued efforts to help. I'll try to find out today if someone at work has a computer I can borrow to burn the cd.
