Thought parents would get a kick out of this. Maybe even save a reputation or a child's life. This letter
was written by my granddaughter's principal. The prom was last night. Yes, she survived.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Today, Friday, the 29th of April, 600 Bobcats will participate in the Boca High Prom. Know that our top priority is the safety of all in attendance. Please make it your top priority to know the pre and post-prom location, supervision, and activities in which your child will engage. This night of great celebration can change to a night of great tragedy in an instant.
If your student is telling you that he or she will be at an adult-supervised pre or post-prom event, please check with the adult allegedly planning to supervise.
We learned of a very unsettling post-prom event to which this year's prom goers were invited by fellow students. The professionally-prepared event flyer listed "Open bar, jello shots, multiple kegs, hot tub, and much more..." among the attractions. Hundreds of students and no parents were expected to attend. Fortunately, this event has been cancelled, though it is likely that similar events are planned in rented hotel rooms and other unsupervised locations.
Even our most honorable students are prone to making terrible decisions during this celebratory, energetic time. Your intrusive involvement in your child's decision-making is necessary.
Please remind your student and your student's date to bring photo ID's. All prom participants will be subject to on-site testing for alcohol consumption and/or drug use. Even a sip of wine or the handling of any illegal substance will result in severe disciplinary action taken against any in attendance.
On a positive note, thanks to Ms. XXXXXX and our Prom Committee, our staff chaperones, the hired law enforcement officers, the Boca Hotel and Resort's five star provisions, and the amazing students who will attend, this promises to be a spectacular event. Since we do have a wait list of students hoping to attend, please call 338-XXXX to inform us if you know of a ticket holder who will not be able to attend.
Thank you for supporting our efforts to serve and protect our precious Bobcats!
