I thought I was practicing safe browsing. Don't remember exactly what I was doing. Just chilling on ventrilo with my friend and browsing the web. Then my computer restarted for seemingly no reason. Must have been a virus right? Right after that, all google searches are redirected to hxxp://scour.com, admarketplace.com, something.doubleclick.something, and others. I know that somethings are masked as services and using scvhost.exe to eat up my bandwith. If I end the right one i get all my bandwith back.

I used some common malware removal tools. They identified tracking cookies and even a trojan but anything they uninstall doesn't matter because more installs in the next hour. I'm sorry I didn't keep any of the logs for those, I was hoping to fix this myself. One of them said a restart was needed to finish uninstalling the stuff, but when it attempted to shut down my monitor went black but the computer stayed on. I gave it about 15 minutes before turning it off with the power button.

That's when I got really dumb and used combofix.exe.......... sorry. I am not sure anything bad really happened but it also tried to reboot the computer and was unable to shutdown.

I think that's the sad story. I know y'all will take a while to get back to me so I'm going to keep force closing the suspicious scvhost.exe so that I can keep gaming online. But I promise to not try to remove it myself for a while. Oh yeah, if I don't shut down that scvhost, then the total activities using my pdanet (droid tether program) keeps climbing. I've seen it as high as 80. At that point that single scvhost was taking up 40% of my cpu and about 90% of my bandwith.

Thanks for being here for us idiots. Here is the DDS log, btw I cannot run GMER to completion, it starts but always crashes:

Hello

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links. I want you to save it to the desktop and run it from there.
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?
