I have some sort of redirect virus I believe. It doesnt happen everytime I click on a google search result, but maybe every 20 times.

Im running on Windows Vista Business. I have run spybot, superantispywear, tdsskiller, microsoft security essentials and malware and nothing comes up as infected. I have checked my system32 file, etc file, hosts and did delete a second host number that was in my hosts under the 127.0.0.1 localhost.

I just ran Hitman pro and it brought up BundleInstaller_dsl.exe as a virus. Is this most likely my problem?

Thanks,

KL

If there is nothing else in the hosts,I would remove that bundler and run one more scan.

If you still redirect you may still have a DNS hijacker from that bundler and we can fix it.

I'd like us to scan your machine with ESET OnlineScan
  • Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
    ESET OnlineScan
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
    • Click on Posted Image to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on the Posted Image icon on your desktop.
  • Check Posted Image
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Under scan settings, check Posted Image and check Remove found threats
  • Click Advanced settings and select the following:
    • Scan potentially unwanted applications
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth technology
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, push Posted Image
  • Push Posted Image, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Push the Posted Image button.
  • Push Posted Image

Before I remove it, meant to ask, we changed to ATT dsl service, would the bundler have been something I downloaded from them when setting up my service? Dont want to take it off then have to figure out that it needs to be added back again.

Thanks,

KL

That is a slight possobility. I am trying to find a reference to it. Before you remove it run the ESET. If it finds a dsl.exe then we will remove there as then we have a double hit.

http://www.threatexpert.com/files/dsl.exe.html
Across all ThreatExpert reports, the file "dsl.exe" has always been identified as a threat.

OK.
1. Ran Hitman pro again to remove the dsl.exe file and nothing came up as infected so I guess it was already deleted.

2. Ran ESET and it resulted in three files found and they were deleted. The text from the results of the scan are below.
Please let me know what you think as Im still being redirected occasionally.

Thanks!

C:\ProgramData\VistaCodecs\{146A630B-CF66-4B5E-95BF-478A16039BF3}\Vista Codec Package.msi Win32/Packed.Autoit.E.Gen application deleted - quarantined
C:\Users\keith\cbbleepingregistrybooster.exe Win32/RegistryBooster application deleted - quarantined
C:\Users\keith\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Low\Content.IE5\Z8O9H3Z9\search[6] Win32/Adware.SpywareProtect2009 application cleaned by deleting - quarantined

You're welcome.much better. You installed a bad codec file and a bad Reg booster. I would guess off a torrent as they are always infected.

Please rerun MBAm and tell me how it's running after that.
Rerun MBAM (MalwareBytes) like this:

Open MBAM in normal/regular mode and click Update tab, select Check for Updates, when done
click Scanner tab, select Quick scan and scan (normal mode).
After scan click Remove Selected, Post new scan log and Reboot into normal mode.

Rerun TDSS as it has been updated ti=o kill the latest Tdl4

Please download the TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool (TDSSKiller.exe) and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!
Be sure to download TDSSKiller.exe (v2.5.0.0) from Kaspersky's website and not TDSSKiller.zip which appears to be an older version 2.3.2.2 of the tool.
  • Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.
Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
  • If TDSSKiller does not run, try renaming it.
  • To do this, right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. 123abc.com). If you do not see the file extension, please refer to How to change the file extension.
  • Click the Start Scan button.
  • Do not use the computer during the scan
  • If the scan completes with nothing found, click Close to exit.
  • If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results - Select action for found objects and offer three options.
  • Ensure Cure (default) is selected, then click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.
  • A log file named TDSSKiller_version_date_time_log.txt (i.e. TDSSKiller.2.4.0.0_27.07.2010_09.o7.26_log.txt) will be created and saved to the root directory (usually Local Disk C:).
  • Copy and paste the contents of that file in your next reply.

If TDSSKiller does not run, try renaming it. To do this, right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. 123abc.com). If you do not see the file extension, please refer to these instructions. In some cases it may be necessary to redownload TDSSKiller and randomly rename it before downloading and saving to the computer

  • Ensure all Firefox windows are closed.
  • To run the tool, double-click it (XP), or right-click and select Run As Administrator (Vista).
  • When prompted to run the scan, click Yes.
  • GooredFix will check for infections, and then a log will appear. Please post the contents of that log in your next reply (it can also be found on your desktop, called GooredFix.txt).

If still redirecting>>>
Change your DNS Servers:
  • Go to Posted Image > Run... and in the open box, type: cmd
  • Press OK or Hit Enter.
  • At the command prompt, type or copy/paste: ipconfig /flushdns
  • Hit Enter.
  • You will get a confirmation that the flush was successful.
  • Close the command box.
If the above commands did not resolve the problem, the next thing to try is to reset your network settings and Configure TCP/IP to use DNS.
  • Go to Posted Image > Control Panel, and choose Network Connections.
  • Right-click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up, and and choose Properties.
  • Double-click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) or highlight it and select Properties.
  • Under the General tab, write down any settings in case you should need to change them back.
  • Select the button that says "Obtain an IP address automatically" or make sure the DNS server IP address is the same as provided by your ISP.
  • Select the button that says "Obtain DNS servers automatically".
  • If unknown Preferred or Alternate DNS servers are listed, uncheck the box that says "Use the following DNS server address".
  • Click OK twice to get out of the properties screen and restart your computer. If not prompted to reboot go ahead and reboot manually.
-- Vista users can refer to How to Change TCP/IP settings

CAUTION: It's possible that your ISP (Internet Service Provider) requires specific DNS settings here. Make sure you know if you need these settings or not BEFORE you make any changes or you may lose your Internet connection. If you're sure you do not need a specific DNS address,
then you may proceed.

I tried the flush and got a message that said "The requested operation requires elevation"

i look at the DNS servers stuff and they are set to automatically select them.

But I think we may be on to something with the DNS servers because I think this redirect thing started happening when I switched isps to ATT.
