Hello, and thanks in advance to anyone who responds to this.

I kept getting redirected (was using IE and Google as my homepage). I caught the name "google analytics" on a few of the redirects and others were just too quickly redirected for me to catch the name. Also, Google is suddenly in French anytime I opened it. I did the usual scans for baddies but came up with nothing. I updated to IE9, same issues. I am now using Firefox with msn as my homepage, but it's not acting right either. TDSS Killer finds nothing, Malware Bytes only found negligible objects. Kaspersky says all is okay (and I know it is not) and I don't know enough about HijackThis to know what's a baddie and what isn't.

I have been at this all day, performing scans, waiting for results that show little or nothing and I don't know what to do from here. I am obviously not experienced enought to ferret this out by myself. Help please? I will be online here all night to fix it so I'll respond quickly to any help. Thank you very much.

Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<==. If you cannot complete a step, skip it and continue.

Then post your DDS and GMER logs as a reply to this topic. Once you have done that I will remove my reply and consolidate the posts so that you retain your correct place in the queue.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the reply and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

Thank you, I have already followed these steps however in Gmer, every option except for services, registry and files is grayed out and will not allow me to check them.

The DDS logs, in the meantime.

==== End Of File ===========================

Hello,
I haven't heard anything in a while and I'm not sure if that's typical. Just wanted to add that I've followed some of the BC tutorials to tackle this redirect problem and my scans (malwarebytes, tdss killer, blacklight, basically all scans spoken of in this forum) still show nothing is awry. Oddly, my husband is having the exact problem I am having and it occured at the exact same time, which makes me think this is a router issue now? Is that a possibility? That a router can become "infected" or "hijacked"? I went to my linksys config settings and sure enough the password was just admin, yikes, so I've now changed it but I didn't expect that would solve anything, and it hasn't. I hope for some help soon, as both of our comps are pretty much OOC until it's resolved. Thank you again for any help.

EDIT: Please be patient. There are over 440 unanswered topics in this forum at present and the current average wait time to receive help is 10 days. ~Budapest

  • Tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
  • Tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.

Hello

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links. I want you to save it to the desktop and run it from there.
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?

It ran smoothly. Redirect problem persists. It's worse when using Internet Explorer with Google as my search engine, so I've been using Firefox with msn, it's not as bad there, but still there. Here is the log :)

Hello

Yes it looks like the DNS settings on the router have been changed.

Resetting Router

Let’s try to reset the router to its default configuration.
  • This can be done by inserting something tiny like a paper clip end or pencil tip into a small hole labeled "reset" located on the back of the router.
  • Press and hold down the small button inside until the lights on the front of the router blink off and then on again (usually about 10 seconds).
  • If you don’t know the router's default password, you can look it up. Here
  • You also need to reconfigure any security settings you had in place prior to the reset.
  • You may also need to consult with your Internet service provider to find out which DNS servers your network should be using or you can use OpenDNS
Note: After resetting your router, it is important to set a non-default password, and if possible, username, on the router. This will assist in eliminating the possibility of the router being hijacked again.

flush the DNS:

Now lets flush the DNS on the computer:

  • click on Start
  • select run
  • enter cmd and hit enter
  • a black window will open.
  • please enter the following text into that window and hit enter:

    ipconfig /flushdns

Now lets check the router again

Create and Run Batch File
Open Notepad and copy/paste the entire contents of the codebox below, into Notepad:
@echo off
>Log1.txt (
ipconfig /all
nslookup google.com
nslookup yahoo.com
ping -n 2 google.com
ping -n 2 yahoo.com
route print
)
start Log1.txt
del %0
Save this as router.bat Choose to Save type as - All Files and where to save - Desktop - then close the Notepad file.

It should look like this: Posted Image <--XP
Double-click on router.bat to run it. it will open notepad when done please post back the results

I'm sorry, it took ages to get back online (I wasn't the one who originally setup the router so that was interesting, lol) I changed names and passwords in the linksys config. I'm now back online but the flushdns isn't working, it says "requires elevation"? I've done the notepad thing again, here are the results.

Recently there have been vunerabilities detected in older versions of Adobe Reader. It is strongly suggested that you update to the current version.

You can download it from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
After installing the latest Adobe Reader, uninstall all previous versions.
If you already have Adobe Photoshop® Album Starter Edition installed or do not wish to have it installed UNcheck the box which says Also Download Adobe Photoshop® Album Starter Edition.

If you don't like Adobe Reader (53 MB), you can download Foxit PDF Reader(7 MB) from here. It's a much smaller file to download and uses a lot less resources than Adobe Reader.

Note: When installing FoxitReader, be carefull not to install anything to do with AskBar.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.

Here is the Mbam log and Hijack this log. I had a problem with HijackThis when I saved it to my desktop. Since I have Vista I right clicked for administrator but I didn't have the option to, and then once installed I right clicked again to run as administrator but didn't have the option there either. A window popped up that said something about the hosts file not being availabe to me as I didn't run as administrator.

Greetings

These logs are looking very good, we are almost done!!! Just one more scan to go.

:Remove unneeded startup entries:

This part of the fix is purely optional
These are programs that start up when you turn on your computer but don't need to be, any of these programs you can click on their icons (or start from the control panel) and start the program when you need it. By stopping these programs you will boot up faster and your computer will work faster.

  • Run HijackThis

Sometimes we have to run it like this To run HijackThis as an administrator,
    rightclick HijackThis.exe (located: C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HiJackThis\HiJackThis.exe)
and select to run as administrator

  • Click on the Scan button
  • Put a check beside all of the items listed below (if present):

    • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NDSTray.exe] NDSTray.exe
      O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\Run: [WindowsWelcomeCenter] rundll32.exe oobefldr.dll,ShowWelcomeCenter (User 'SYSTEM')
      O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\Run: [TOSCDSPD] C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\TOSCDSPD\toscdspd.exe (User 'SYSTEM')
      O4 - HKUS\.DEFAULT\..\Run: [WindowsWelcomeCenter] rundll32.exe oobefldr.dll,ShowWelcomeCenter (User 'Default user')
  • Close all open windows and browsers/email, etc...
  • Click on the "Fix Checked" button
  • When completed, close the application.

NOTE**You can research each of those lines >here< and see if you want to keep them or not
just copy the name between the brakets and paste into the search space
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IntelliPoint]

Eset Online Scanner

**Note** You will need to use Internet explorer for this scan - Vista and win 7 right click on IE shortcut and run as admin

Go Eset web page to run an online scannner from ESET.

  • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
  • click on the ESET Online Scanner button
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
    • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the activex control to install
    • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is unticked and the Scan Archives option is ticked.
  • Click on Advanced Settings, ensure the options
Scan for potentially unwanted applications, Scan for potentially unsafe applications, and Enable Anti-Stealth Technology are ticked.
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Click on copy to clipboard and paste the results here in this topic
  • you may also find here C:\Program Files\Eset\Eset Online Scanner\log.txt
Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic

Followed your HijackThis instructions without problem and here are the results from Eset. Copying to clipboard and going into eset/log etc. shows two different "results" so I'll paste both.
Copy to clipboard -

C:\Users\Onionhead\Downloads\registrybooster.exe Win32/RegistryBooster application

Copy from eset/onlinescanner/log -

ESETSmartInstaller@High as CAB hook log:
OnlineScanner64.ocx - registred OK
OnlineScanner.ocx - registred OK
