Can't access any of my files and might be virus?

Okay so before my computer had this little mishap, my computer was equip with AVG Free antivirus protection and was working fine. I was just browsing through some pictures on google and then all of a sudden a thing called Spyware Protection comes up and downloads itself. After some internet help I was able to eliminate it (or so I thought) by deleting its executable and then its registry thing.

Of course I restarted after that and then decided okay I probably should get a different antivirus software considering that it didnt protect me from that one virus. I downloaded spyware doctor with antivirus and uninstalled AVG in compensation. Big mistake on my part as then my computer got wacky. After exitting all my programs and problems with windows explorer I finally was able to system restore my computer.

Problem is I can't access any of the files in my computer or certain programs. Says permission denied and I'm the computer admin. Also, I repeatedly hear some ads play on my computer without seeing any and I realized it was coming from my Internet explorer. I deleted my history and watched as the history was piling with websites like findcute.org and search.lovethings until it just got on my nerves. I dont even see Spyware Doctor anymore but right now I'm repairing my AVG to run a scan. Please tell me if you know whats wrong with my computer and how to fix it! I dont want to reformat my computer and lose all my files!

I was told it might be a rootkit but I wanted to be sure before I did anything rash. I'm new so I'm not sure if I posted in the right place but please help!

Aso, using a HP pavilion with a windows vista and amd turion 64x2

  • Before we begin, you should disable any anti-malware software you have installed so it does not interfere with RKill running. This is because some anti-malware software mistakenly detects RKill as malicious. Please refer to this page if you are not sure how to disable your security software.
  • Double-click on Rkill on your desktop to run it. (If you are using Windows Vista, please right-click on it and select Run As Administrator)
  • A black screen will appear and then disappear. Please do not worry, that is normal. This means that the tool has been successfully executed.
  • If nothing happens or if the tool does not run, please let me know in your next reply

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.

IMPORTANT!!! - when you save the file, rename it to something random, such as bubbles.exe This must be done before beginning the download!

MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.
  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
  • If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
Back at the main Scanner screen:
  • Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.
  • Exit MBAM when done.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.
