Been crippled for a week by what appears to be a series of incredibly malignant viruses. Search sites redirecting (and TDSSKiller not opening even when renamed), multiple crashes when using browser, slow processing speed, and incredibly inconsistent CPU usage (jumping 10-50 percent at all times). I've also had internet explorer open without request, seems to be an additional adware. Pretty well boned here, and I would tremendously love some help.

As an additional note to the infection's severity, it took me almost a week in order to successfully run a GMER scan. Every other time (regardless of if I was in safe or normal operating mode), GMER would cause a critical system crash. Ugh.

Thanks for all possible help!

Hi,

Please do the following:

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

* IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Posted Image

  • Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Posted Image

  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.

The Combofix application seems to be a no go. Every time I tried to open up the application, it would freeze and then subsequently crash the system (after displaying that Combofix loading bar as full). In safe mode, I was able to open Combofix, but it would then freeze at the Microsoft Recovery download screen.

So it seems like, at this point, I can't properly use Combofix.

Please delete the copy of ComboFix that you have on your desktop and download a fresh copy, but make sure you rename it to iexplore before saving it to your desktop. Now try running it. If it still wont run, try running it in safe mode:

To Enter Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY repeatedly,
  • this will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Safemode
  • Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard
  • go into your usual account

Hi,

Please do the following:

  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below.
  • They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
Copy/paste the text inside the Codebox below into notepad:

Here's how to do that:
Click Start > Run type Notepad click OK.
This will open an empty notepad file:

Copy all the text inside of the code box - Press Ctrl+C (or right click on the highlighted section and choose 'copy')

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic392640.html/page__view__findpost__p__2219074

KillAll::

Collect::
c:\docume~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\HJYA.exe
c:\docume~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\MJQQIHZC.exe
c:\docume~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\XSNABMDYEOFKBRYLM.exe

Driver::
HJYA
MJQQIHZC
XSNABMDYEOFKBRYLM

Now paste the copied text into the open notepad - press CTRL+V (or right click and choose 'paste')

Save this file to your desktop, Save this as "CFScript"

Here's how to do that:

1.Click File;
2.Click Save As... Change the directory to your desktop;
3.Change the Save as type to "All Files";
4.Type in the file name: CFScript
5.Click Save ...

Posted Image
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
  • Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

NEXT

Please advise how the computer is running and if there are any outstanding issues

I still have Internet Explorer pop ups, and Google is still redirecting. I also still had to do the Combofix in safe mode since system crashed in normal operation mode. Thanks for help so far since system does seem to running more quickly. It also seems Panda won't disable despite me turning off automatic updates (I'm presuming that is what is meant when it says that Panda is enabled in log). Log follows:

Hi

Please do the following:

Earlier on ComboFix installed the Recovery Console. We're going to use that now.
  • Reboot your machine and when the Boot Menu flashes up - select "Microsoft Windows Recovery Console"
(you need to be very fast with the arrow key as you only have a couple of seconds before it defaults to the windows XP bootup)

    Posted Image

    Posted Image

  • When you get to the above screen, take note of the number that references your operating system.
  • If it's '1' like the picture above, type 1 and press Enter
  • It will then prompt you for the Administrator's password. If there is no password, simply press enter.
Otherwise type in the password and then press enter.

    Posted Image

  • Next type FIXMBR

    Posted Image

  • If it asks if you're sure you want to write a new MBR, answer 'Y'
  • Then type EXIT to reboot the machine.

Once completed, please advise if the redirects are gone

When I select the Recovery Console as my operating system, I receive this message:

NTLDR is compressed.
Press "CTRL+ALT+DEL" to restart.

I can't type in any other command to get past this. And, unfortunately, I don't have the installation disc since I lost it during a move. Thus the reason I'm on here instead of just doing a clean sweep. Any other way around this?

Thanks a ton. I know I've been a pain.

we still have lots of options left

Please try these instructions for building a disc containing the Recovery Console first

Please download ARCDC from Artellos.com.
  • Double click ARCDC.exe
  • Follow the dialog until you see 6 options. Please pick: Windows Professional SP2 & SP3
  • You will be prompted with a Terms of Use by Microsoft, please accept.
  • You will see a few dos screens flash by, this is normal.
  • Next you will be able to choose to add extra files. Select the Default Files.
  • The last window will allow you to burn the disk using BurnCDCC
Your ISO is located on your desktop.

Okay, I've burned a recovery CD using ARCDC. What is my next step from here?

Use the CD to boot into the recovery console

your machine will need to be set to boot from CD first

then follow the instructions to type FIXMBR at the windows prompt > instructions from this post

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic392640.html/page__view__findpost__p__2219260

Let me know how that goes

then advise how your computer is running and if there are any outstanding issues

when you entered FIXMBR did you get a successful result?

do you connect via a router?

If so reset the router and flush the DNS

Reset your Router:

  • This can be done by inserting something tiny like a paper clip end or pencil tip into a small hole labeled "reset" located on the back of the router.
  • Press and hold down the small button inside until the lights on the front of the router blink off and then on again (usually about 10 seconds).
  • If you dont know the router's default password, you can look it up. HERE
  • You also need to reconfigure any security settings you had in place prior to the reset.
  • You may also need to consult with your Internet service provider to find out which DNS servers your network should be using.

NEXT

  • Go to Start > Run > type: cmd
  • Press OK or Hit Enter.
  • At the command prompt, type or copy/paste: ipconfig /flushdns (note the space between ..g /f it needs to be there)
  • Hit Enter.
  • You will get a confirmation that the flush was successful.
  • Close the command box.

NEXT

  • Please open your MalwareBytes AntiMalware Program
  • Click the Update Tab and search for updates
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. <-- very important
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

NEXT

Go here to run an online scanner from ESET.
  • Note: You will need to use Internet explorer for this scan
  • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the activeX control to install
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is unticked and the Scan Archives option is ticked.
  • Click on Advanced Settings, ensure the options Scan for potentially unwanted applications, Scan for potentially unsafe applications, and Enable Anti-Stealth Technology are ticked.
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • When the scan completes, press the LIST OF THREATS FOUND button
  • Press EXPORT TO TEXT FILE , name the file ESETSCAN and save it to your desktop
  • Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Press the BACK button.
  • Press Finish

The DNS will not flush. I tried it several times, noted the required space, but it didn't work. Receive a message stating:

Could not flush the DNS Resolver Cache: Function failed during execution.
