You may visit this site to download the antivirus available for free download. They have tons of free software that you can download and use it to your computer.

Are you totally sure you're installing the xp version?

If you decide to go with something else..Avast or Avira are both freeware and just as good as MSE.

or Comodo for a full suite...

Cheers

BTW...If you are trying to install the correct version, it seems odd there is an error. Might be a good idea to scan prior to installing with Malwarebytes and/or SuperAntiSpyware.

Please check this one....
First, be sure that the MSE that you have downloaded is complete and not corrupted. You can check this by comparing the size of the program that you downloaded vs to the size shown in the site then install again MSE.

Select the installation file: mseinstall.exe.
Open the properties tab (right-click, select Properties...).
Select the Digital Signatures tab.
Select Microsoft Corporation in the signatures list, click details.
On the Digital Signature Details dialog, you should read "The digital signature is OK.".
If you don't, the file is corrupted and you should download it again.

Try re-downloading, if there was a slight problem(i.e d/c of internet connection) it could have corrupted the install package, happened to me whilst downloading the office 2010 installer three times.

The link for MSSE is this one, this is the valid link you should be choosing to download from.

Please note, MSSE will only install on valid, licensed, activated copies of windows XP.
