Referred from here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic391877.html ~ OB

I swear, I end up going back here every month :P. I'm starting to miss my old, sturdy laptop.

The problem I had been experiencing redirects on Tumblr (and only on Tumblr) on The 14th. I did my usual weekly scan with SAS, and the program picked up Trojan.Agent Gen-IE Explorer and Trojan.Gen-PEC. It removed both, but since then I have had some mild problems; my jusched.exe file from the Java profile accessed the internet for the first time. (it's in the program files and not in the C:\\ drive, so that caused me no initial worry.), my Word and browser crashed a couple of times when I tried to navigate to a new URL or edit a doccument). GMER has picked up some modifications in temp files since then, but nothing

Issues include periods of slowness, especially in shutdown and startup, but occasionally while running more than three programs at once, extreme slowness in opening my Word program, and occasionally slow browsing speeds, but otherwise nothing major. I was experiencing redirects on Tumblr, but removing the IE fake seems to have cleared it up. Any help would be appreciated!

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review your topic an do their best to resolve your issues.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit scanner. Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log

Thanks.

Hello, MML.
My name is etavares and I will be helping you with this log.

Here are some guidelines to ensure we are able to get your machine back under your control.

  • Please do not run any unsupervised scans, fixes, etc. We can work against each other and end up in a worse place.
  • Please subscribe to this topic if you have not already done so. Please check back just in case, as the email system can fail at times.
  • Just because your machine is running better does not mean it is completely cleaned. Please wait for the 'all clear' from me to say when we are done.
  • Please reply within 3 days to be fair to other people asking for help.
  • When in doubt, please stop and ask first. There's no harm in asking questions!

Now, we'll empty your temp files and run an online antivirus scan. Nothing obvious in your log was showing. Besides the slowness, are you having anything else going on?

Step 1

Please pull anything out of the recycle bin that you want to save. Part of this fix will empty temp files, and that does include the recycle bin.

Please download TFC by OldTimer and save it to your desktop.
alternate download link

  • Save any unsaved work. TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser!
  • Double-click on TFC.exe to run it. If you are using Vista or Windows 7, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator.
  • Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion.
  • Important! If TFC prompts you to reboot, please do so immediately. If not prompted, manually reboot the machine anyway to ensure a complete clean.

Step 2

I'd like us to scan your machine with ESET OnlineScan
  • Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
    ESET OnlineScan
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
    • Click on Posted Image to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on the Posted Image icon on your desktop.
  • Check Posted Image
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Check Posted Image
  • Push the Start button.
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, push Posted Image
  • Push Posted Image, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Push the Posted Image button.
  • Push Posted Image

Yep, general slowness, slowness in loading page icons, and slow loading of programs. Computer also has periods where it runs for a rather long time for no real reason while updating.

TFC is one of my main staples, but lately whenever I run it I get a bluescreen that causes a restart. It runs after the reboot, but then I have to manually hide my files. The same thing just happened when I ran it, but it did run successfully the second time.

Running ESET as we speak, and - since running it usually takes a very long time, I'm going to let it run overnight and post results tomorrow :)

ESET ran through to the end, and no threats were found - it didn't give me any results to check or go forward to, either.

Hi MML, I'm really sorry for the delay...my subscription to this topic apparently got reset and I was going through my notes on other logs and found this one. The good news is that all your logs appear clean. I can help you with the slowness if you want.

That's all right - and yay, that's good news :) . I have been having a bit of an issue with Norton blocking Blackhole Toolkit Website Attacks, which I outlined in the 'Is My Computer Infected' forum. But yes, I'd love assistance with that!

Ok, it does appear that you determined the cause of that issue here.

In regards to slowness...when are you having those issues? Boot up? While using a specific program? In general?

Yep, that got taken care of :) . Sorry I went elsewhere - I wanted to double-check with Norton it wasn't something going on with my AV. It's definitely ad poisoning, as one of the banners displaying links to a website literally called Avrogue.

When I booted today, my screen flashed twice - I checked my History and it said a program had exited full-screen mode, called DrawOSD. But, in general, The computer goes through periods of extremely-slow start up (about two to five minutes of boot time) between the Windows welcome logo and my start-up menu. It also generally takes five to two minutes to shut itself down. Sometimes using TFC helps it, but more often than not running TFC results in a blue screen or the computer having a 'fatal error' that shuts it down.

Hello, MML.

OK, let's start with StartupLite. let me know if this helps.

Download and Run StartupLite
This program will identify and give you the option to remove uneeded startup items to free memory.

* Download StartupLite.exe by MalwareBytes to your desktop.
* Double click the icon to start the program. If you are using Windows Vista, right click the icon and select Run As Administrator.
* A list of uneeded startup entries will be compiled. Leave all the items as Disabled and click Continue.
* Restart your computer.

All set and run! I've noticed a mild uptick in shutdown speed, but nothing incredibly obvious.

Ok, next try Soluto. This will run and measure what is taking up the long time to load. It only goes through when Windows loads, though. Try this and let me know. Don't forget to uninstall these when you're done!
