Greetings all,

Firstly, thanks to the community for being here, to help the uninitiated like me.

Having said that, here's a gist of my problems, and what actions I've taken over the past 2 days.

I have Symantec Endpoint Protection for Small Business Edition installed on my PC running Win 7 - 32 bit.

Sometime yesterday, I started getting tons of error messages from Symantec, which basically informed that my PC was attempting to send multiple emails to random recipients, and that Symantec was blocking them each time - the problem is, the pop-up msg keeps appearing like 30 times every second. Furthermore, the problem was compounded, when I tried to check my email msgs (I use Mozilla Thunderbird) - and I received an error - which basically said that Symantec was blocking login to my POP account, due to malicious activity.

I am posting the log file below.

I must add here, that when I ran HijackThis, I got an error message:
"For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file. If any Highjacked Domains are in this file, HijackThis may NOT be able to fix them."

I will be extremely grateful if someone could take a few moments and help me get this hellishly-annoying problem rid-of, once and for all.

Thanks in advance,
Arcodiac

Hi Arcodiac, and welcome to Bleeping Computer.

Yep, there are traces of malware in the HJT logfile... We need much more information, though:
Please follow our Preparation Guide For Use Before Using Malware Removal Tools and Requesting Help, and post the logs requested - post just the DDS.txt and Attach.txt logs + GMER logfile...
