eBay search result page hammering cpu

XP sp3, p4 1g-ram. Running IE8

I noticed an issue this week while scrolling the eBay search results pages; the scrolling is hanging, then letting go.

Popped up WTM, and the cpu usage hammers up and down, anywhere from 18 percent to 100 percent. It's the moments (obviously) it's at 100 percent, the scrolling freezes.

The hammering is on about one second intervals, and if left alone, it just continues endlessly to "bounce off the ceiling".

So, it 'could' be an issue with something new about eBay. I have not found other websites to do this, even with as many as 10 - 15 windows open to various sites.

But open eBay, enter an item, and hit search, and the results page causes issues.

The only thing I can think of I've done recently, was (at my sisters suggestion), was download and install Google Chrome. I don't think I even got around to opening the program before discovering the issues with performance, and therefore un-installed Chrome.

I delete old files religiously, and just this afternoon ran AVG and Spybot - both came up clean.
