So just replaced my old pentium 4 / windows xp box with a new amd phenom / windows 7 box.

Same office 2003, and same hp officejet pro 8500 that used to work fine.

Now whenever I try to print from excel I get the error:

"Your file could not be printed due to an error on HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909g Series on NE04:. There are several possible reasons:

  • There may not be enough memory available. Try closing files and programs you aren't using.
  • If you use a network for printing, there may be a problem with the network connection or the printer driver.
  • There may be loose cables or a bad connection between your computer and printer.

I've tried:
Check for office/excel updates - no updates available
Check for HP Printer updates - no new updates
Reinstalled printer drivers - reinstalled fine but no result
Checked cables - everything's plugged in
Printing from other applications - other programs print fine

Then it gets a little bit weirder, if i click "file" "Print..." and click the "Properties" button in the print options screen, then click "ok" or "cancel" I can print without error.

So I guess I have a work-around for now, but I'm hoping i can get this fixed and working right.

Help?!

* correction: it only allows me to print if i click "ok" on the properties page...
if i click cancel it's right back to the error again...
