Hi! Can someone help me with my computer problem.

My computer stability is beginning to get worse. The more memory I use the more likely my laptop will either freeze or crash immediately.
The only screen that provides any information related to the crash shows up on a blue screen and states the following:
"The system has halted
Hardware Malfunction
Please contact your hardware provider"

I thought I had a virus at first but I did two full scan from my avast antivirus software and Sandra Lite Diagnostics.
I also ran a WD data Lifeguard Diagnostic and it came back to contact WD for technical support. Here are the results:
Test Option: EXTENDED TEST
Model Number: WDC WD3200BEVT-60ZCT1
Unit Serial Number: WD-WXG0A6915044
Firmware Number: 13.01A13
Capacity: 320.07 GB
SMART Status: PASS
Test Result: FAIL
Test Error Code: 08-Error was detected while repairing bad sectors.
Test Time: 00:09:27, April 14, 2011

Prior to my incident I have had a keyboard malfunction. The following characters kept being inputted on whatever screen I was using: `5/ End of characters. I tried reinstalling keyboard drivers and update my bios but still no solution. I also noticed that the keyboard inputted the characters more often when the laptop was moved.
I ended opening up my pc and found a slim black film like connector with gold colored trimming out of place (similar to the keyboard connection). This connector seemed to me to be for buttons on the top panel of my keyboard. I simply made the connection and looked for any other misplaced wires, which I found none of, and put everything back together.
Since that time I have had no more problems with my keyboard.

Prior to my keyboard malfunction I think I dropped my computer with a protective case from a distance of 5 feet to the ground. Maybe that could of caused some havoc internally.

I have doing the constant windows update and keeping my disk clean. I even removed some unnecessary windows startup programs but the problem still persists.

Here is a report from my laptop

Have you contacted Western Digital?

If the hard drive test spits back errors, I'm betting that's the cause of your stability problems.

You will likely have to replace the hard drive (let's hope it's under warranty).

I am betting the bleepin Ninja is right. :thumbup2: (or maybe :( ).......

Here is a replacement drive that can be delivered to your door for $60. I didnt do in-depth research but it's probably faster than your current unit. (black-7200 rpm) You will need a operating system disc from manufacturer also. Most don't supply them with the computer but if it is a Dell they will send you one for free.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136280

HDD are easily damaged by falls, I lost one that way- it happens.....(why I know about dell sending free OS discs...)

Good luck to you.

Bill

P.S. good job on the keyboard
