I first posted this on Friday.

After running AVG, I found 3 Rootkits.

"Object name";"MBR"
"Detection name";"Rootkit.TDSS.TDL4"
"Object type";"file"
"SDK Type";"Rootkit"
"Result";"Object is hidden"
"Action history";""
-----------------------
"Object name";"C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\ddpkse.sys"
"Detection name";"IRP hook, \FileSystem\Ntfs IRP_MJ_CREATE -> ddpkse.sys +0x267D"
"Object type";"file"
"SDK Type";"Rootkit"
"Result";"Object is hidden"
"Action history";""
--------------------------------------------------
"Object name";"C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\ddpkse.sys"
"Detection name";"IRP hook, \Driver\Tcpip IRP_MJ_INTERNAL_DEVICE_CONTROL -> ddpkse.sys +0x437E"
"Object type";"file"
"SDK Type";"Rootkit"
"Result";"Object is hidden"
"Action history";""
-------------------------------

I had a message coming up, saying that I had a virus. But I knew it was malware. So I updated my AVG, and found 3 rootkits. Haven't done a virus scan yet. The malware is not coming up right now. It was saying XP security, and there were 2 shields. One red, and one yellow. I saved a file, but I can't read it. It is in CSV.

Information about my computer.

Microsoft XP
Media Center Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 3.

Dell Inspiron 1501

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An update. After downloading, and runninig AVG, I no logger have a popup saying that I have a virus. I couldn't go on the internet harldy, so I took out AVG, and installed Avira Antivir, and PC Tools Firewall Plus. Not sure if I should keep these two, or go back to AVG.
What I have now is this. While on the internet, a webpage opens up. It might say that I won a prize, or its a WalMart gift card, or something else. I'm using a laptop. The right button, on my mouse doesn't work. The right button on the key pad works.

I check my task manager, and the CPU sometimes says 100%. Most of that is svchost. I also have Second Life. It's an online world. Some times I get a message saying system32 windows has to close. If that happens, and I open another webpage, theres no sound on that webpage. And if I start SL, there would be no sound, or music in SL.

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Somethings to remember while we are working together.

  • Do not run any other tool untill instructed to do so!
  • Please Do not Attach logs or put in code boxes.
  • Tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
  • Tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
  • Do not run anything while running a fix.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

Click on the Watch Topic Button and select Immediate Notification and click on proceed, this will help you to get notified faster when I have replied and make the cleaning process faster.

In order for me to see the status of the infection I will need a new set of logs to start with.

A few days ago, I turned the computer off, by clicking on start, and then on shut down. However, the computer didn't shut down. So I mashed the off button. Now when I turn it on, it shows Inspiron, then the number, and the screen goes dark. I tried having it start on safe mode. But that dosen't work either. Right now I'm using my other laptop. It's the same model. Last week it wasn't working. It would lock up when I turned it on, and I couldn't do anything. It had a malware called tyd.exe. I turned it on a few days ago, and it worked. It still has a few viruses.

Should we close this topic, and open another one, for the laptop that is working? Or should we find another way to fix the computer? Or waite a few days, and see how the other computer is doing?

Here is the report. Not sure if I did it right. When on the internet, some times a web page comes up by it self. The right button on my mouse don't work. I use a laptop, so I use the pad to right click. Also, when on the internet, all the pages will close. This doesn't happen every day. But the webpages do open up several times a day. When I turn the computer on, it beeps very fast. When I mash the enter button, it stops beeping. That might be something with the computer it self. But it does have a virus. I put 2 of the files in the same folder, and zipped it.

Hello

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

AVG right now is very hard to shut down long enough to run our scans and is actively going after some of our tools - for this reason we are going to have to remove it until we are finished

I would like you to uninstall AVG and run their AVG removal tool

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links. I want you to save it to the desktop and run it from there.

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?

Here's the log. I didn't zip it. Is that ok?

When It did the first scan, and did a restart, the screen went blue. It had some information on there. I forgot what it said. I turned it off, and it restarted. Anti Vira came up one time. I had it turned off. It said that it deleted some files. Will I be able to get those back?

I have a red shield,at the bottom right, and it says Windows Security Alerts. When I got back on the internet just then, it said something about if I wanted IE to be my default browser. I clicked yes.

When should I download AVG?

Greetings

When should I download AVG?
when we are complete.

Good That cleaned up some bad guys but I see some other stuff that we need to go after, so I want you to run this custom script for me.

:Run CFScript:

Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the box into the window:

File::
c:\documents and settings\BESSIE HICKAM\zeogvvlbdv.tmp
c:\windows\system32\zeogvvlbdv.tmp

Driver::
djtarbxf

RenV::
c:\program files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\CLIStart .exe
c:\program files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch .exe
c:\program files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\DVDLauncher .exe
c:\program files\Dell\QuickSet\quickset .exe
c:\program files\Dell Support\DSAgnt .exe
c:\program files\NetWaiting\netWaiting .exe
c:\program files\QuickTime\qttask .exe
c:\program files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh .exe
c:\windows\ehome\ehtray .exe

Save it to your desktop as CFScript.txt

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe
Posted Image
This will let ComboFix run again.
Restart if you have to.
Save the produced logfile to your desktop.

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following

  • report from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now after running the script?

I tried clicking, and dragging, but it's not working.I can double click, but not click, and drag. Is there another way to get the script there?

I no longer have webpages opening up, when I'm on the internet. When I do a search on Google, it will take me do a different webpage when I open it up. So when I open a link from google, I click on the red X in the left, and then on the green arrow on the right. That stops it, and lets me see the page I'm looking for.

On the task manager I see about 43 process. There used to be about 52, or more. I'm having help, and suppot coming up for some reason.

I want you to run this tool for me next.

tdsskiller:

Please read carefully and follow these steps.
  • Download TDSSKiller and save it to your Desktop.
  • doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application, then on Start Scan.
  • If an infected file is detected, the default action will be Cure, click on Continue.
  • If a suspicious file is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.
  • It may ask you to reboot the computer to complete the process. Click on Reboot Now.
  • If no reboot is require, click on Report. A log file should appear. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
  • If a reboot is required, the report can also be found in your root directory, (usually C:\ folder) in the form of "TDSSKiller.[Version]_[Date]_[Time]_log.txt". Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.

I decided to post the note pad. I did the scan about 2 times. It said that it didn't find anything. My mouse arrow, has a small hour glass on it right now.
