Hi all-

As I sit here with a handful of hair from the latest batch I've pulled out due to the frequency of the blue screen of death I'm getting, I said, well- its time to ask the professionals... :-)

Its become more frequent over the last couple of months... and I wish I could pinpoint what the actual problem is... the upload to microsoft after the last couple of crashes tells me that the file I'm sending to them is corrupt... and thats rare... not so rare for me though...

Like I said, its been going on for months now, and getting more frequent... I've tried uninstalling lots of unused programs... its gotten worse...

I'm using Windows XP Professional... with Malwarebytes Full version, Microsoft Security Essentials, Spyware Terminator, and Spybot S&D resident...

After posting in the XP section of the forums (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic390009.html), they had me uninstall the IP6 network adapter driver, shut down then restart and reinstall... download the Norton Removal tool and run it (which freaked out the HP Internet Smart Printing program... I had to remove it from the add remove programs section to keep it from running its Windows Installer over and over)...
I had been using the Windows XP firewall... but since they didn't recommend that, I downloaded ZoneAlarm Pro trial version and am now using that...

Trying to get the ark.txt, I can't tell you how many times I've had to shut my computer down as it just locks up... this symptom is new since I've made these changes... hopefully you guys can help me out here...

... and thanks for your time. :-)

RJ

Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links if you no longer have it available. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit Scanner.

Please note that if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows you will not be able to run GMER and you may skip this step.

Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

Best Regards,
oneof4.

I'm holding my breath... I started checking the eventvwr after each blue screen then uninstalling or disabling each thing that caused the problem... no blue screens in a while now... so I'm holding my brath, crossing my fingers and knocking on wood... :-)

Thanks for checking back.
