i use mozilla firefox
a file was downloaded onto my computer that has caused multiple problems. some of which were solved by using the anti-spyware and such or helped to minimize the problems but i still have a big one. here are my symptoms

i got a red X in the lower left corner with a message saying it was windows telling me that i had a virus and if i clicked on it it would send me to a site that had some bogus spyware program such as spy sheriff. i managed to stop it if i clicked on it sending me to another page but took me 2 more days to get rid of the red X itself

at start up i will have about 6-7 files, including msn messenger that will cause problems and bring up a dialogue asking to be closed or im given only the option of "Ok"

my browser will, for lack of a better word, become hijacked. it will load another page from whatever web site im on and load an ad or some other site over top of the one im already on.

My browser loads much much slower. i know its not just the internet because an online game i play doesnt seem to have slowed down at all.

several programs that i have i can no longer access and i get this.

Download this program:

submit files packer

Highlight the files listed below in bold and right-click and selecting copy.

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\axxt32.dll

Then start the file packer program and right click in the white box and select paste to paste the copied file names in the field.

Then press the Continue button.

I will create an archive with these files and a small log on your Desktop that starts with a name like requested-file[date].cab.

Rename this file to yourmembername.cab (for example grinler.cab).

Then go to:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/submit-malware.php
and fill in the required fields and browse to this file on your desktop. Finally click on the Send File button.

Click on start, settings, control panel and double-click on add/remove programs. From with add/remove program uninstall the following if they exist:

Surf Sidekick 3

Then,

Print out these instructions and then close all windows including Internet Explorer.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Then I want you to fix some of those entries. Please do the following:

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then click the Fix button:

You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

if you receive, while running option #1, an error similar like: ''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."...then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. do not run the fix portion without fixing this first

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then it will ask for a password enter bye (lowercase) then hit enter. Your desktop and icons will disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, it will be ready for a reboot. Press any key to reboot. After the reboot notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!
If after the reboot the log does not open double click on it in the l2mfix folder.
