I can't get rid of SpyAxe. Countinuously get balloon message "Your computer is infected...." Bla, bla, bla. Seems like the typical SpyAxe stuff, but can't seem to get rid of it. Ran smitRem in safe mode (as suggested), but after reboot, SpyAxe still there. Both Adware and Spybot picked it up and 'eliminated it' but it remains. Also get Microsoft AntiSpyware warning popping up every once in a while indicating that SpyAxe it trying to install itself.

Also running Norton Internet Security which seems to have been modified. Norton Internet Security and Norton Antivirus have been eliminated from the Address Bar in Internet Explorer. Right click on the bar and they are on the menu but when selected nothing happens.

I think I got rid of it. I ran the 12/28 version of SmitRem, which I think did it. There was clearly some activity when it went through the SpyAxe removal part of the process. For good measure, I also ran SpyBot, Adware and Microsoft AntiSpyware (all with the most up to date updates). All of them found some things to get rid of too. I'm not sure if they were related to SpyAxe or as a result of SpyAxe screwing with my Norton Internet Security.

I had to uninstall and reinstall Norton Internet Security to get it to work right, but everything seems good now.

How to see hidden files in Windows

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then click the Fix button:
